Mazda MPV - Ever Remove the Useless Shelf? How'd You Do It?

Attached to the inboard side of the passenger front seat in our '03 MPV is a folding shelf that is the complete opposite of useful and elegant . It's a shot in the Off-Topic dark, but I'm wondering if anybody whose other car is a Mazda minivan, has successfully de-installed this "feature". It's nothing but in the way, whether it's up or folded down .

Zoom zoom,
Tatt

This may be a bit obvious, but have you tried a Mazda forum with this question?

I have a Mazda MPV. Mine doesn't have this feature.

Mine's a 2003 "LX" we purchased used, so I've no idea if it's a (lame) option or was "standard". No matter what I still loathe the dumb thing.

Hammer! Be assured I will save my very specialized tool (aka "BFH") as a fallback/last resort, yessiree. While effective, it seems inconsistent with my hopes to keep up the excellent condition of the rest of the interior! I don't want to leave marks.

As for Mazda forums in general, the minivan must be a little too un-glamorous to merit much attn in most of them. For whatever reasons, they don't believe me that my "Zoom Zoom" and "MAZDASPEED" license plate frames (on the MPV) makes it go FASTER! .

The one forum that looks most promising, mpvclub, is (of course) the only one of the whole lot that I am barred from accessing thanks to the automated "browser police" @ my work computer! ... Apparently the idea of "work related" web browsing doesn't include How-To's for minivan shelf-amputations.

It is ironic that I can use NAM (or shop for a leather handbag if i wish ) from my desk, but mpvclub.com no workie.. Oh well, at lunch I procured a nice parts diagram that should be helpful in my very judicious application of Nabeshin's idea (the BFH) this evening.

Gratefully,
Tatt

Shelf Removed OK!

Low-tech seat was easy to de-install and that gave access to what was fastening the shelf. All gone, reinstalled seat, Zoom Zoom!
Thanks all,
Tatt
