The 2003 Automotive Turkey Awards
Taken from Forbes Online: and I added a few comments. Remeber, these are the Turkey awards so there aren't exactly going to be some pleasant things to say about this cars at this point in their existence.

Here are some highlights:
Forbes reason - The aging Chevrolet Blazer recalls a time when sport-utilities were uncivilized and, like the Blazer, came with two-door variants. The 2004 model will be the last Blazer, as Chevy plans to kill it and usher its potential customers into the 2005 Chevrolet Equinox, the successor to the Tracker sport utility. With its days numbered, the current Blazer is as neglected as the segment leader, the Ford Explorer, is lavished with attention. More importantly, current Blazers carry a rating of "poor," the lowest in the Insurance Institute for Highway's Safety's frontal offset crash test.

Hafid,
Thanks very much for your comments/photos/summary. I looked for the MINI but did not see it-hope it doesn't join the ranks of the PT cruiser and others.
Many of the above turkeys fell into that mode through poor sales which reflects not keeping up with the changing marketplace. Others are turkeys for being downright unsafe- this is inexcusable for any automobile in 2003. Why should anyone have to drive a car that is highly likely to result in serious injury in case of a crash- I was expecting the Ford F-150 to be on the list for it's crash test flaws-but it's a great seller-so what are people thinking?
The Aztek with the 5 year residual value of 19% is horrible. That almost is as bad and the old AMC Pacer I would think. The Cavalier and Ion make good cheap rental cars for some fleet. Driving a rental always makes me appreciate my MCS a whole lot more-this year I made 29 business trips with three more coming up.

I agree with most, especially the chevys. Cavaliers are the worst pieces of automotive cheapness in the US (rented one of those dangerous things on Florida, the thing "floated" on the highway)
The Cruiser (design appart - most people don´t like it) is actually one of the best built Chryslers I´ve seen and driven.
If they wanted to include aging designs then the Beetle must have been on that list.

19% for the Aztek. My goodness that's low. Normally, I have no problem adding insult to injury, but I'm actually beginning to feel pity.
Actually, I will throw in this tidbit. You can make of this whatever you like. My brother works for GM. They have a wonderful discount on their products for employees (and family members, something I highly doubt I'll ever use). The Aztek, however, is a special case. I wasn't given numbers, but the story goes that the Aztek was given a near record discount to employees to try and get more on the road. I guess the logic was that people would get more used to seeing them and the design would not be as condemned with the preferred result being more sales. I don't know how well it went, but from the talk that was passed back to me from my brother, even the folks that built them wouldn't be caught driving them.

Yes, I'm surprised the New Beetle isn't on that list. The New Beetle's outré styling isn't going to spur sales anymore, since everybody and their brother has one. The concessions made to achieve the New Beetle's looks while retaining the Golf IV platform underneath - horrid ground clearance, questionable visibility and ergonomics, minimal trunk space, no rear headroom, an engine located halfway under the cowl and strut-removal instructions that begin with "remove the windshield wipers" - are the kind of things that make owners realize that the New Beetle isn't a very good retro car, or a very good car, period.

I can't say I'm honestly surprised to see all of the above vehicles in this type of list. Most all represent the anti-enthusiast automotive appliance, the two exceptions being the PT and the Tiburon - both of which have some sort of following, however delusional those people are. I completely loathe the Cavalier; as it represents all things wrong with american thinking; tasteless styling, crappy engineering, sub-par powertrain; crappy suspension; crappy interior, did I mention crappy engineering, crappy packaging, crappy everything.
