Possible new car... well, SUV...
Possible new car... well, SUV...
Mrs. Demon is looking at getting a new car in the very near future... On of the cars we are looking at is a 2006 BMW x5 4.8is. Has anyone ever had any dealings with these cars? I have been researching x5 and have found that the 4.8is is not a very common car... This one is loaded. There is nothing you could add to it. Literaly every option is on it...

Any input on x5's would be greatly appreciated...
Also, I am taking it to Waylen to have it checked out this week...

If you haven't already perhaps check out a few of the big BMW forums and see what info there is on potential issues and any TSBs or such to look out for to be sure they were addressed under warranty (since, as far as I know, TSBs are not covered for free once the car is past warranty). I'm sure people on such messageboards as bimmerforums/bimmerfest/etc could help you out with model specific feedback
Best of luck with it, cheers

A good friend of mine has one (exact same year and model (silver 4.8is)) and is looking to sell it (lives up here in Chicago, though). He got his from Miami just before the winter, and it's still got low miles on it. He had a Silverado pickup truck before, and he's determined that he's more of a pickup guy, as compared to an "uppity SUV" guy. LOL Personal preference for him is how the Silverado handled in the snow better than the X5, but that likely has more to do with the tires than anything else.
Avgs about 17 mpg around town. It's fast and handles well for an SUV (provided you don't run across any Trailblazer SS, Cherokee SRT-8's, or Cayenne Turbos). He had some issues with the power windows not working too well when it was zero degrees around here, but that's hardly a concern you'd face in Hot-lanta. He preferred the manual or sport mode of the trans as opposed to leaving it in D (felt like it shifted into 3rd and 4th too soon during relaxed driving).
Anyway, if you're interested before making a commitment on the blue one, let me know. He's a meticulous (possibly OCD
) car guy that takes good care of his machines.
