O.K. so I'm looking to upgrade the interior rearview mirror of the wife's '05 X3. It currently has the auto-dim/alarm/rain sensor one, but looking to upgrade to a "Homelink" one, since I was told it's just plug n play as long as it comes from a similar year range car with same features. My question is: Is it a "doi-it yourself" simple thing? If so, How in the world do I remove that mirror? The base has a wide black plastic cover that seems to sparate in halves. Then it is encasing what looks to be a rectangular rain sensor that seems to be glued to the windshield...

any help appreciated

 

I would go register and ask at Bimmerfest, or at least look there and do a search. That is likely to have a better chance yielding results.
