Squeaky Struts on Accent
Squeaky Struts on Accent
I'm in the process of trying to sell my old 1995 Hyundai Accent. I've had the car for about 10 years. It took me through college and has been great. I've taken care of it with 3,000-mile oil changes, etc, and the car looks good for its age. The problem is that the struts squeak. I think they're fairly new as far as struts go. I had them replaced around 60,000 miles...give or take 5,000-10,000 miles. (The car has a little over 100k on it now) They didn't need to be replaced when I had it done the last time...I just got a really good deal on some new struts, so I jumped on it. I took it to my mechanic, and he said that the struts are fine and don't replacing either. I grew up with this guy working my my car. I've known him for a long time, so I trust him. Two problems though. First: The squeak is still there, people come out and drive it, and comment about the squeak...then leave and never come back. lol I've considered packing the bearings on the front struts. Although, I'm not sure if that would solve anything. The rear struts are accessible from the rear seat, but I can't figure out how to get into the bearings yet. Does anyone have any ideas on other ways to solve the problem...or is packing the bearings the answer? Problem Two: The rear strut dust covers (I guess that what they're called) are fairly dry rotted. Can this hurt the rear strut? What can I do? I'd appreciate any advice you might have.
Yep...that worked quite nicely. There's still a creak every once and awhile, but it's a 13 year old Hyundai Accent...and I'm not sure if it's possible to make it sound like a new car.
