Ok what i dont understand is that if you drove a brand new S last year wouldnt it still be the same R56 this year?? BMW hasnt really changed it that much.

And dude honestly if you believed you dodged such a big bullet why are you posting on these forums. Stop trying to convince yourself, you bought an old fart car, and it doesnt even matter because if you cant appreciate the mini then you dont deserve one.

Understood, and glad you aren't truly upset that someone out there doesn't appreciate your car the same way you do. We'd all be driving the same thing if we didn't have different preferences.

I just don't think you can expect R56 owners to read something like the OP's post and not get a response. After all, R56 owners spent their hard earned $$$$ on something which the OP completely ripped apart. Granted, the responses to OP may not have been the most well thought out, but I think you can at least appreciate why they responded the way they did.
I can appreciate why you feel the way you do, but I guess I'd question why an R56 owner such as yourself would be reading through the 1st gen section unless they felt compelled to defend the honor of their cars whenever (and wherever) it was called into question. For example, I'm a Cubs and Bears fan, but I wouldn't spend time on the White Sox or Packers forums trying to quash their fans from speaking negatively about the Cubs. You certainly have the right to read and participate wherever you want, but it comes across as "looking for trouble" when you walk into a Harley Davidson bar and start trying to defend your Honda, for example. Granted, the OP kind of did that here by praising the R53 and bashing the R56 (even though it IS an R53 section), but I found the "low road" responses by some of the Mini supporters to be disappointing and not reflective of the attitude our community should display. Just an observation.

Anyway, enjoy your ride, whatever it may be, and have a good night
Excellent advice for everyone to remember.

I hear you. I read through some of the R56 topics as well. I like several aspects of the R56 and their improvements outweigh the minor negatives enough that I'll consider one when the time comes.

That'd be tough it's not like the cubs stack up well against those Championship teams.

If you read the original post again, perhaps you'll notice that the OP stated that he had previously driven an 05 MCS (which he enjoyed), which IS significantly different than the 08 MCS (that he didn't so much enjoy). That should help you understand better.

I read that he was considering a Mini again to replace his CTS-V. Did you miss that too? This is a Mini forum... Perhaps he's now considering a used 2002-2006 compared to a new 2008 now that he actually drove an 08 and decided it wasn't for him? From what I've read of your other posts here on NAM, you've shared that you don't have a Mini yet either (you are 18, a student, drive a Saturn, and will be apparently placing an order in a few weeks for your MY/B). By your own logic, one might ask why YOU are here... Just teasing, you are certainly a rabid Mini brand loyalist.

Well, he does seem to appreciate the Mini, just not the new one. Way to be welcoming to someone that is apparently considering a Mini to replace his "old fart car" (the one with 400 hp, 6 speed manual transmission, factory Brembo brakes, 13 second 1/4 mile, computer limited top speed of 163 mph). Amazing what passes for an "old fart car" now, at least to 18 year old Saturn owners.

Well, can't argue with you... The teams that have won championships all have my respect, even if it's been a few years. They earned their place in history. However, I'm content with acknowledging the past while cherishing the present and having hope for the future with regard to being a fan.

mini really messed up the R56. it'd take a brand new 05 or 06 MCS anyday over an new R56. only thing i like about the R56 is the crazy good gasmileage and adjustable suspension. but in terms of looks, in and out. the R53 wins.

Way to avoid the main point and nit-pick over a minor point, Danny. My apologies for confusing one old-person automobile for another. A caddy is a caddy, in my book.

Nice to see the maroon has someone defending him. Maybe he'll give you a ride in his STS.

Not really, in fact the CTS-V is so far away from what a Caddy was known to be, that it probably shouldnt have ever been called a Caddy. Plus I am in love with GM musclecars, if I could have got better gas mileage out of my 04 GTO I would rather have it over the MINI anyday. The MINI is a compromise for me, its the best bang for the buck of the MPG kings. But I dont consider it to be a very sturdy or confidence ensuring car, and still unsure of its reliability.

I think you just answered your own question as to why some of us mocked the OP for walking into this W.Sox/Packers/Harley bar just to say he dodged a bullet by not being a fan/owner.

and no, I didn't see an indication that he's seriously considering buying a used MINI - the MINI crossed his mind 'cause of gas prices, but why would anyone buy one over a GTI?

That's what I did.

But, now I'm wondering if I should have gotten a Caddy.

The accusations and use of the T word come from the fact that the user only has two posts. Excluding that the user would have been labeled anyway for not expressing a popular opinion.

I was not impressed with the ride of the R56 either. Compared to the R53, the R56 feels as if it has been watered down for broader consumption. There are plenty of defenders of the softer, land-yacht feel of the R56, and the differences have been discussed to a great extent.

Okay, PB&J... I'd addressed the main point directly a few times, but thanks for confirming my thoughts about you (and apparently a number of other MINI brand loyalist owners that responded here) being rather ignorant about other vehicles outside of the MINI realm.

For all of the overly sensitive MINI owners, I called wah-one-one for you, and they are sending help immediately to help console your hurt feelings.

Because I don't care enough about old man Caddy's, that means I know nothing about other Makes or Models ? You're showing a bit of narrow mindedness yourself there, Danny.

And that waaaaaaahmbulance gag.... it's a bit overplayed and tired, don't you think ? Got anything more original ?

Most people aren't brave enough to post pictures of themselves on a public forum. Bravo for you, sir!!! Glad that your San Fran neighborhood embraces your open displays of whatever it is that you are displaying!

Motor on!
I agree with lilruffcat on this one, what may be one person's thing may not be mine and vice-versa. I just wonder what motivates someone to get on a forum designed for owner's of a particular car and then go on about why they feel "they doged a bullet" by not buying one; just seems counter productive to me. I'm sorry that armchair didn't find the MINI appealing; I don't think Cadillacs are appealing to me, but I do not get on the Cadillac forum and tell them why I think that make of vehicle isn't worthy of my ownership.

Like mama always said,"If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything".

That's all I have to say about that.

So I'm narrow minded because I'm an enthusiast who doesn't wear MINI rose colored blinders? And you're the one that can't tell the difference between a CTS-V and an STS? Interesting... Oh, that "Old Man Caddy" you refer to: The 2009 CTS-V now holds the record for sedans at the Nurburgring, besting every other production 4 door EVER made. It also was faster than a Viper, Audi R8, BMW M5s, 911 GT3, numerous Ferraris, and other cars you are probably unfamiliar with, PB&J.

And that waaaaaaahmbulance gag.... it's a bit overplayed and tired, don't you think ? Got anything more original ?
Whoa, with witty retorts like that, you really put me in my place. Perhaps it's been overplayed and tired since it's had to have been used too frequently on people such as yourself. Just a guess... Have a splendid day, PB&J!

Anyway, I expect the thread to be locked soon, as it's clear the MINI Love Brigade is intent on driving away a potential MINI owner who didn't demonstrate warm fuzziness about the 2008 MCS, even though he loved the 2005 MCS. Nice work chaps!
