Whew...actually read it from start to finish.

Sure makes me glad I don't live in that particular area of Tempe. Facist HOAs, corrupt contractors, and rampant auto thefts in gated communities? Why would anyone want to deal with it?

HOA's here in AZ really do suck. They get you for everything they can. My HOA fees are only $50 a month but Im hit up at least 3 times a week for something small. I hope he fights this and wins. I wouldnt know what to do if I lived there cause I wouldnt know what to do with my 3rd car. Most cities here will only allow you to park in the garage. Not on the street or in the driveway. WTF is up with that?!?..

I don't know why a constitutional argument against HOA's hasn't gone to the Supreme Court yet.

Tell me what or where I can park on my own land? That I can't paint my house blue in a sea of beige?

That I MUST join an HOA to buy a house in a nice neighborhood?

Gromit....put it this way...up in the Anthem community (here in Phx) you have to have your house repainted EVERY 5 YEARS!! And if you dont...they slap fines on you and then foreclose on your house...

I looked up the dollies at HF and it's $120 before tax. But at least you don't have to pay every time you use them. I don't have a HOA but my sister does. She ended up getting on the board so she could get her voice heard.

A buddy of mine wanted to repaint his house and he looked at this tiny little paint chip of a sample and decided it looked good. He painted his whole house with it. I'm cracking up writing this. I drove over to see it and wow... it was this horrible ghastly green amid all these drab and dreary tan and gray looking houses. It really stood out. I think he let it sit for a week before he repainted it. If it would have been me, I would have quit painting after the first swipe of the brush.

You don't have to live there. All the HOA stuff is to be disclosed when a house is bought. If one does not do their own due diligence before buying then it's your own fault.

I live in an HOA neighborhood and pay $170mo. I also do not have to cut the grass, take care of the trees, fix the roof, repaint fences or any deal with anything on the exterior of my home. I did the math and to me for my lifestyle in the manner I want to live it makes sense. It's not for everyone, you do have a choice.

You don't even have to live in an HOA community to be subject to that restriction -- just a historic district with a HRB.

How do you get away with not having to do that?!?! We just get harassed. Yes the HOA stuff was in my contract but since then it has went through around 250 revisions and 5 price increases since I had the house built in 04.

Small community, mostly retired folks that love to wander about the community looking for infractions or issues to bring up to the property manager. We pay a lot for the services and they do them.

They are also so old that they don't want change, very few revisions and only increases to cover inflation. It's real simple for me, I park in the garage, bring my trashcan back in before dark and am quiet. Sure, I'd love to have a trailer to pull the MINI to the track with the jeep, bit can't park it anyplace. I am at peace with that.
