My wife has a 2007 Honda Elite 80. I think we paid $2100.00 for it new. It gets almost 100 MPG and is a good size for her. Before she got a Co. truck she was driving 36 miles to work round trip with no problem. It would run 55 to 60 except on long hills which slowed it down a bit. Now she drives it on weekends for fun. Honda's are proud of their scooters price wise but they do have a good dealer system which a lot of the scooters from China don't.

I don't know the exact situation where you live.
How far to school, work, etc etc.

I would suggest getting a small motorcycle.
They get 50, even 60+mpg.

But you can go with the traffic, down the lane,
instead of hugging the curb as monster trucks
and maniacs whiz by.

If your son has never been on a bike before have him take the safety course. Most states still consider them motorcycles. I only bring this up because I see alot of these scooters fom Pep boys on the road, they are unregistered and the riders are just dangerous.

That said Piaggio is owned by Vespa and makes great road scooters. They can be driven on any road, get about 75 mpg, and have room to store stuff on board or you can get a cargo box for the back.

Sure there is storage - under the seat, in a back-pack and that compartment thing at the front even looks useful.

Granted there are no cup-holders......

Even though these things are not exactly fast, insist that he wear decent gear, motorcycle specific boots, gloves, jacket, jeans and a FULL FACE helmet - people look incredibly dump with no jaw following a 30mph 'spill'.
