new camaro
i was reading a new thread on my yahoo about the new 2010 camaro. boy, gm and ford just do not seem to get it. in 2010 the tdi's from europe and japan will have already been accepted as the current technology. basically, more performance, and less fuel consumption.

Equals suck, new Challenger FTW. And, that's if GM even builds it. I would not be surprised at all if they still don't. Either way, it'll only break like all other Chevy's do.

What is (potentially) cool, is that there are some rumors of many different powerplants offered, including a turbocharged four-banger.
I know to the muscle-car crowd, that would be sacreligious, but you could get close to, or equal the horsepower of a V8 with proper tuning of a turbo four-banger, with much less weight up front, and better gas mileage.
That would actually be cool, in my mind.
But that is just one of the hundreds of Camaro rumors swirling about right now...

I think it will be a decent car, just bad timing with ever rising fuel prices. But at least it will have a proper suspension, unlike the POS Mustang. (I say this a former Mustang owner) I think GM is doing some really great stuff recently, the new CTS, the C6 Z06, the Sky/Solstice, but they really need to focus on the small car market that they have ignored forever. Even the new Cobalt will be a Daihatsu (spelling/) just like the Aveo, basically they are just farming it out to the Koreans. So I hope they get their **** together, because we need GM & Ford, but their heads are so far up their behinds that things could go horribly wrong in the next ten years. They stuck all their eggs in the truck and SUV market, going for cheap & easy profits.

I'm not a fan of the Camaro's design for their gauges and instrument layout, however, I'm hoping it grows on me.
Aside from dealer markups, a comparably performing Camaro (MSRP $30-$35k) will be about $5-10k less than the heavier SRT8 (MSRP $42k?). If your loyalty is that strong to Dodge, I hope you don't mind paying excessively for it. And I hope you don't mind looking at tail lights of the Camaro's supercharged motor from the ZR1 and CTS-V either. You better hope to hell they don't build it. LOL As for "all Chevy's breaking", I guess you don't really want people to delve into the stellar quality that is a Chrysler product...

Anyway, right now a comparison of the two is merely speculation until all levels of both cars are on the streets and available. Chrysler did a great job putting the Challenger SRT8 together quickly using an existing platform. It's a beautiful vehicle, and I think the interior is far more tolerable than the love it/hate it interior of the Camaro's, based on what I've seen in person and in pictures. Any idea when the R/T and SE versions of the Challenger will be available?
I would hope those of us on this forum can have an even-keeled discussion about a good natured rivalry balanced with some humor and mutual respect. If that's not something you can handle, however, then I can appreciate and understand why you would choose not to participate.
I've got a good friend that's been intimately involved with the focus group and development of the new Camaro. So I'd love to learn more from your side about the Dodge. I'm not a "brand loyalist", but rather an auto enthusiast who can appreciate vehicles from many different manufacturers.

I am kind of a brand loyalist. I own a MINI and like quite a few cars on the road but am also quite opinionated about cars I don't like. IE-the S2000 is a very impressive car and I like it despite the fact I can't stand some Honda people. I hate trucks, period. Mustang/Camaro people can get annoying because to some, that's all that matters. Hell, I've sold parts to one beat off in a MINI who I can't stand because he's a tool. I work auto parts retail so my opinion stems a lot from the public being handicapped as far as the cars they drive go. I was born into a Mopar household so that's also part of my opinion. I work with a girl who's a big Fox chassis Mustang nut. That's what she know, that's what she likes but she hangs out with the biggest and worst Mustang losers in town. There's my manager who is a Jeep person at heart. Another vehicle I rarely like. Seen a few good ones, seen the overdone, basic Jeep on 33's that the owner thinks is badass.
Hemi: Oh, I agree completely that there are a-holes who drive Camaros and Firebirds, as I deal with them on a regular basis in my other club. They tend to be a small, yet vocal and visible, section of the ownership, however, and that unfairly influences how the general populace is viewed. Kind of like how it only takes a few SRT-4 punks to make you think everyone is like that...
I don't see myself in the income category to go for the top of the line SRT8 or supercharged Camaro, but the R/T Challenger and the LS3 Camaro in the lower 30's will certainly appeal to me and get me to go test drive both of them.
This may be the last go around for quite some time with these types of cars with the fuel situation, so we better enjoy it while we can...

Good point. Fun to look at, wouldn't want to buy either even if I did have the money but pretty impractical. Kind of owning a 'Vette as a daily driver. If I had the money for even one in the low to mid 30's, there's a lot more cars I personally would look at.
