Guys, dont let this happen

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3469046&page=1

from what have heard/read some idiot at H20 International decided to get drunk, drift the horse racing track, hit a trailer, show car then get into a chase with the cops before wrecking the car and getting arrested. thankfully no one was hurt. this is not what the scene should be. i know its the end of the show season, but for next season and for the winter, be safe guys. there is far too much tragedy happening in the enthusiast scene.

Azzclown. It's sad that stupid people with no self control somehow manage to have the means to own nice cars... Geesh.

* Drunk
* Reckless
* Speeding
* Evading Police
* Resisting Arrest (probably)

He's gonna have an attitude readjustment courtesy of the state...

Unless he's Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan or Britney Spears. Then the judge will just ask for his autograph and send him to drive home with no license.

A friend of mine just gave the reason for his driving

'Yeah - obvious, innit, he was spazwankled'

sums it up perfectly to me......

I have to admit that I am very impressed with the results when hundreds of MINI owners get together for an event. Though there was this MINI riding on 20s that was ramping up the asshattery at MOTD a couple of early years, but he was shut down by the attendees before he could get too far outta hand. Still, all it takes is one clown like this to ruin an event for everyone. I bet the VW club wont be welcome at that track anymore.

As an aside, does anyone know if this was part of some apparently huge event that took place a couple weekends ago in Ocean City MD? I was in OCMD that weekend and VWs and Audis were everywhere. A couple of the drivers were trying to get me into a game of redlight/greenlight on the main drag. An employee at the hotel said cops were sucking up speeders like no tomorrow.

yeah, this happend at H2O international. every year its in ocean city and this is the first year there has been an issue like this. its not surprising though, every year it gets more rowdy. it got to a point with Waterfest (huge VW show in New Jersey) that police were on the forums watching where people were going to be staying and police were there before VW's were there. but it also got to the point where people were DESTROYING hotel rooms.

like everything, it started out as fun. like every show, some people doing burn outs and fly by's and all that jazz. then the alcohol came out and people started getting dumber and more brave. dont get me wrong, i love to drink with friends as much as anyone and some people will do stupid things but never to this extent. i hate to say it, but the VW scene is almost turning into the (Fast and Furious) Honda scene. it really is a shame because some people in the community try to do nice things. every year we have a toy drive with Swift Motorsports in Connecticut much like the Mini Toy Drive done here in Westerly (one of the board members of the Westerly Community Credit Union, my employer, started this and i really would like to be involved in this) and others just come through and screw everything up for the rest of us. like they say, one bad apple...

thats why i want out. the local guys i run with are good guys and try to discourage that way of acting, but i dont want to be associated with that scene as it continues in the direction it is going. unfortunately, the whole automotive scene is viewed as a bunch of misfits leaving it up to us to do our best to prove everybody wrong. i did it as a skater, surfer, biker and will continue to do it as a driver

Everytime I read something like this I'm reminded why I'm not into this type of event. I'm a thirty-something and I pretty much got tired of this scene a long time ago.

The only major event I participate are autox events and the occasional meet with a small group of local MINI owners or a dealer event. I don't even attened MINI rally events b/c of what can happen when too many people follow each other .

I like the small local meets b/c we just park our cars and just talk shop. But even during the meet, I get concerned when I see the odd modified Honda Civic or a Mustang/Camaro with the loud exhaust buzz by.
