My 1970 Bug is finished!
Nice! There's a lot of work in that bug.
My girlfriend has a '67. It's a restored Arizona car with only 58K miles. It goes to a couple shows a year but it is mostly just fun to drive around. It gets more smiles than the MINI!

Nice Bug!!! very clean.
Ive been a huge "air-cooled" VW fan ever since i can remember. I use to go to alot of the VW car shows back when i lived in florida, like the Florida Bug Jam and what not. I have yet to go to any VW shows since i have moved out to Las Vegas.
Ive also owned a 1968 type 3 "Notchback" which are pretty rare in the US. I ended up selling it and buying my MINI.
But one day i will buy me yet another bug and make it a drag car and aim for the 12's. I want to use a 2.1L (2110cc) its my favorite engine combo. Might even go crazy and turbo it. But that will all come in time. For now i got to work on getting myself a place with a garage so i can store my cars safely.

My dad had one when I was really young in the early 70's. It had some issue with the fuel line coming off or something. A couple of times he realized it and was able to put it back on. One time though, it burst into flames on him in the middle of the road in downtown Raleigh. That was 1976 IIRC and he bought a new yellow Honda Civic to replace it. That car was about the same size as my MINI now.

a quick fix of a steel braided fuel line in that section solves the problem, or a rubber gromet to soften up the metal edge. But since VW bugs have been around since...ummm forever almost. There is a giant performance aftermarket for the cars, and the parts are extremely cheap (in regaurds to other performace parts for other cars) They now make Performance alluminum "Super Cases" that come pre bored for larger cylenders and clearanced for larger "stroker" crank shafts. I plan on running an aluminum case on my next VW, along with a "dry" sump oiling system.
.. I think a fire extinguisher is considered standard equipment for any restored Bug. Usually I hear about the wiring harness overheating and causing a fire (my brother did that a couple of times...)Get into one of your local VW clubs or go to a few VW shows to get noticed, then maybe Hot VW's will come calling. I have a friend who's very involved in the VW scene up here. Not sure what the big VW event is out west (in Cali?) but the big one here is Funfest in Effingham, IL sponsored by Mid America Motorworks. My brother went a few years ago and said it was fun. Lots of great looking VWs
