Prius Outdoes Hummer in Environmental Damage

Prius, the car that will save the world... NOT! I remember a letter to Prius owners about the inflated mileage claim. Read this to find out why, if you dare.

The Prius is intended to be driven differently than a standard automobile and driving one at 80mph is definately counter intuitive to the purpose of the car. So the rating has gone from skewed to reward the prius to skewed to penalize it.

The Hummer doesnt even have an EPA fuel milage rating because of its weight.

I dont have a problem with either vehicle.

Umm... interesting. It's no secret that the production and disposal of batteries is not environmentally friendly. The thing is, the Prius has an NiMH battery. So does your laptop. In fact, nearly every rechargeable battery currently available is NiMH. Yes, the Prius uses a bunch of them in series to get over 250V, but they're still normal readily available rechargeable batteries.

As for the Hummer vs. Prius thing, I have serious doubts that most Hummer's on the road are going to last 300k miles. The Prius, on the other hand, has a 100k mile WARRANTY on the hybrid system and it's not like they can build the car to just stop working after 100k miles.

With all that said, I'm not a fan of the Prius. My parents own one and I can go on and on about my issues with the car. Still, my mom gets over 50 mpg on her commute.

I'd like to know why the EPA is doing fuel mileage tests above the speed limit on nearly every highway. Also, 8mph per second acceleration! That's flat out on a lot of cars...a 0-60 done at 8mph/s takes only 7.5s.
