What's your next mod?

Hey everyone, what's the next mod you are planning? I know a bunch of you are going to the pulley party so there should be plenty of new mods soon.

For me, it's the PIAA 5430 driving lights to replace the stock lights I have right now. I need more light while driving highway 9 in the dark.

Just bought some m7 Springs but I am considering just bringing them to a shop for the install (hopefully for $100-150 --possible?). If not I guess I will just force my friend to help me out again , but springs seem a bit scarier than doing the swaybar.

Oh another thing that just came in..my rear reverse light that replaces that plastic piece that used to be in my bumper. The light is in the bumper but I will do all the wiring sometime this week.

After installing those..not sure

My current mod project is tightening the nut behind the steering wheel. A couple more Doc Wong driving clinics . . .then sport springs/sway-bar.

New stripes are on their way!

Since Mel will spend all but the nicer days of the winter in his cozy spot in the back of the garage, I think I'll do more "show" than "go" mods. I'll do the "go" mods when the driving weather comes back. So I think the next thing on the list is the Euro tail light lenses with amber turn signal.

*EDIT* - oops, I didn't mean to intrude on the N. CA forum. I overlooked where I was posting to.

Springs really aren't that bad. Sure, you've got potential energy in the compressed spring, but with a decent compresser (or even the cheap 'two screw' type like I use ) they aren't a big deal. And that $150 (if you can get someone to do it for that) will buy a LOT of pizza and beer!
Note: I haven't done springs on a MINI, but have done quite a few on other cars. I know the rear units drop right out - not sure about the fronts.

For newer 04/05 the front shock/spring just drops off, w/ older 02 and some 03s it's a little tricky...

My budget is blown now (for a while anyway)

Gonna get pulleyed this weekend- Alta 15% SC and 2% CP, Plugs, Coil Pack, Wires and a GRS IC on the way

Followed shortly by an MTH tuner file and then Pilo coilovers, WMS rear sway bar and camber links

I'll be ready for Nikki Run #4

Schroth 4-point harness seatbelts for the passenger and an M7 front splitter and after that - BBM Head, cams, limited slip and a 400lb. weight reduction and then a credit card bill for 10k.

IT's already here, just waiting for time....

I've got some used front adjustable end-links to put in....

And an M7 ported SC.......

And a modified AGS.......

And an oil catch can......

And all the gaskets for the SC job showed up last week....

I just don't have any frigging time! And this short day stuff in the winter means no 4 hour evenings working on stuff in the driveway after work! I had a rattle to find (not done yet, I hope the rear suspension isn't about to fall off, like it soundls like it wants too), and I had to brake out a propane heater just to do some easy poking around!

And the springs are easy. I used ratcheting tie downs to squeeze the springs when the car was loaded, and lay them down and hit the releast with a 2x4 from a few feet away to unload them...... Ugly, but effective. It was easier than the rear bar for sure.

Matt

Hey Matt:

Let me know what you find.. Today I started hearing something (rattling) from the rear passenger side I think.. I'm thinking my rear sway bar is loose or something.. It doesn't sound like it's falling off or anything, but it sounds like a "thumping" sound.. really heavy sound..

I fear it's under the plastic stuff in the back, driver side. The symptoms were making me thing top strut nut getting loose, but I dropped the strut and it was fine. Subframe tight, end links tights, sway bar tight, caliper mounting HW tight.....
I'm pretty sure that I'll still have the rattle, but at least now I know the back wheel won't fall off!
