I refuse to TUCK. The use of vulgarity is MY issue.

Just so you all know, you won't be able to hit the North Rim of the Grand Canyon unless you take a REAL long time going home.
Due to snow and weather concerns, the North Rim is closed to the public from October to mid-May every year.

See you all here in Vegas in March!

Oh yeah, make sure to sign up for the group dinner at Hofbrauhaus, organized by c3.org.

I was at the South Rim a couple of days after New Years. Pretty much got snowed in. 6 inches or so overnight, power outage, the whole thing. Problem for Cal people (especially North Cal) is the South Rim entrance is about 4 hours south and east of Vegas. Basically, you turn north off I40 just west of Flagstaff, and then you have to go almost back through Vegas to get home again. You could do the West Rim (I've never done it myself) which is much closer to Vegas, but I don't think the view is as impressive.

Maybe a mass of MINI's?
I personally like "a grip of MINI's"

There are a few of us headed down from the Seattle, WA area. Maybe we will run into some groups along the way. Our plan is to head out at the butt crack of dawn on Thursday and drive to Reno for an overnight and then on to Vegas in the morning on Friday.

With any luck we will be coming through northern Cali in the middle of the afternoon on Thursday. If any of you guys are interested in caravaning in a "grip of MINI's" at any point along the way PM me and we can see if we can work something out.

I can't guarantee this, but I've heard that Palace will give you the same rate for nights around when the group rate is organised. However, the group rate EXPIRES ON FEB 1ST so book now!

Idea for non-MINI Owner

I don't (yet) have a MINI, and won't be able to attend this great-sounding event, but I just got back from a birthday celebration in Vegas, and my wife rented me a Lotus Elise from Rent-A-Vette (yeah, different story). Anyway, they had a nice cool blue Cooper S convertible and a Monte Carlo special hardtop available for rent.

My experience with the Elise was excellent. These folks really care about their cars, and understand car-lovers. They'll even pick you up from the airport or your hotel, and bring you back after you return the car. I can't say enough good things about them!

Here's a direct link to info about renting the MINI:
http://www.exoticcarrentalslasvegas....nvertible.html

It's about $150/day for one or two days, about $130/day for longer. Seems pretty worthwhile to me. I'd do it, but there's just no way for me to make the timing work.

By the way, I used the web info from Sin City MINI club to pick some fun drives when I rented the Elise. (Thanks guys! ) We did the drive to Hoover Dam, ran along Lake Mead, and went out to Red Rocks and did the 13-mile scenic loop there. Of these, Red Rocks was definitely the most fun to drive. The loop is one-way, and if you time it right, it's empty enough to really have some fun. (Picture a 3D autcross layout with scenery and no cones!) Oh yeah - watch out for the wild burros!

_Dave_

Note: all pics below taken at Red Rocks on the scenic loop.

Weather last weekend was sunny mornings, partly cloudy afternoons, daylight lows around 45F, daytime highs around 65F. Pretty much what Weather.com predicted.

I wish some of the better pics of Red Rocks had come out - it really is beautiful.

Jason, I think were gonna have to gather some heads together to go back to some of these places for, shall we call them, Re-Runs. There are some sweet twisties thru most of the parks, but sometimes its to crowded, we'll see.

Am0eba, you're more than welcome for the drive ideas. We hope that everyone who comes to Vegas has as much fun as you seemed to.
Hope you left us some money though. Gotta pay for the schools somehow!

On a related note:
Palace Station's group rate closes TOMORROW (Feb 1st 2005). Book NOW if you want to stay there!
