What time do you get off work? I don't get out untill 5pmish and we will have to see if she can miss her school that night. But we booked rooms and are ready to go!

Also I one idea was to crash in San Diego Wed night (early Morning) Since we have friends there and finish the drive on thursday.
Bah too many things to work out

James, are you going the whole way or just part way? I was planning on splitting the trip down in 2 days, leaving the Santa Rosa area around 3:30pm.

I'm right by San Diego and plan on going over early Thursday (not sure what time yet). Will be leaving Lakeside and going out the 52 to Hwy 15 north to Vegas. If we can set up a time to leave and have people meet us along the way it would be great Keep picking up more MINIs until there are at least 50 of us

50 MINIs in a huge horde....what a sight! Might cause accidents...be careful! And whoever is at the rear had better have a VacuCam handy and rolling!

What is the proper term for a large number of MINI's in a group?

You have a pride of Lions
A gaggle of Geese
etc.
And a _______ of MINI's

OH well! Anybody leaving late on Thursday from the SF Bay Area?

There ya go, we did the weekend shot last year. Still worth it.
Start a thread to see if you can catch anyone else going down when you go.

Latest Plan :)

Ok, the Lovely Lady and I finally figured out when we are going to Vegas
Since she has school Wed night we won't be leaving until early thursday morning. We plan on getting out on the road by 6:30am We want to get south of San Jose before the Comute really gets going.

Should not be to bad seeing as we both normally work pretty early (6am normally)

Anyone in the Bay Area who want to Caravan you are more than welcome to join us.
Cheers

Anybody going to AMVIV from Sacto?

I got the time off OK'ed today--count me in for AMVIV! A friend might be joining me, but her waffle potential is pretty high (as is mine -- takes one to know one). I'd really like to caravan if possible, especially if I end up traveling solo. Anyone going from or through Sacramento? I'm thinking of a Thursday departure with an overnight in Bishop.

A "mobitude" of MINIs (kind of a cross between mob and multitude).

Last year we went to the meeting spot, no MINIs. So we headed to the second spot. Now we are going back and forth across the over pass looking for others. None to be found. Stop at the drive through to pick up some drinks. Pull back on the road "AHH" a MINI. Now there were two. We stop, talk, make a plan. Head to Bakersfield, the third stop. We follow her since she had a radio, we did not. As we pass through town she hears them on the radio. Met in the parking lot and of course took pics. Now there are four. Had lunch with our new friends. They had some great stories to tell. Continuing on our journey we made one more stop. Behind us, the sun was just about to set and before us, the full moon had just risen over the mountains. What a photo op! Wouldn't have been the same without the other MINIs.

Let's see how many we can get together this year!

Lyle and whoever else is interested, it's not ending in Vegas for the wifey and I. We'll be continuing on to Zion, Bryce Canyon and ending up in Salt Lake City for the first time. Just fyi.
Hey James,

Have the maps, I figure we can gather input from those who come to Vegas and are from those areas. We've been told to go to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon as well. We don't keep strict deadlines, we Go with the Flow.

Check on the Gold Country forum (www.goldcountrymini.com).... I think there are at least 4-5 cars from Sacramento going.... maybe more.

Sounds like fun, needs a lil more organization, but that should not be too hard

On a Different note:
Where is the best place to buy those radios everyone uses on these MINI excursions? And what are they called exactly
I need a set

They are called two-way radios or bidirectional radios... anywhere from $35 a pair to $150+ a pair depending on their quality, range and bands available. Motorola makes some that are usually sold at Costco with around a 2-mile range that are cheap if in stock. I have a set that my kids use when we are camping.

I have a set of Uniden GMR895 (with 22 channels and 38 CTCSS codes) that I purchased on Amazon.com with an 8-mile range with a scan feature. rechargable batteries, and a charger. Technically almost all of them requires an FCC license available online for around $80 good for 5 years unless you only use bands 8-14 (I think) which are children's walkie-talkie bands with a very limited range. See http://www.fcc.gov/wtb/uls or call 1-800-418-3676. I am likely one of the few users that actually got a license... just in case I am pulled over for any other reason.

Bad news is that just about every club uses a different band. REME uses 17-7, Norcal uses 14-7 (which is a children's walkie talkie band), and a lot of clubs use 7-7 (which a lot of families tend to use). So if you want to communicate with someone, you have to first know what band they are talking on unless you have a scan feature.

Some of the cheaper models don't have sub-bands (or CTCSS Codes) so may be able to hear conversations but may not be able to be heard.

Yo avery. Im sure a weekend in Vegas couldnt hurt..... Im still waiting for my damn check to get here so I can make my reservations... I doubt Ill get the discounted rates.

Apparently, word is getting around about our trip to NON MINI owners. My brother was talking to a co-worker about going to Vegas. The guy asked what days my bro was going so he said March 2-7. The guy said "Oh ya? Me too! There is some MINI thing going on down there that we want to check out".
