Monterey Historic Races Car Club Corral Sign Up
Concorso Italiano
Special thanks to Carol for accomodating us Southern Californians into the group buy for the corral - thank you, thank you, thank you!
Wanted to suggest those attending might want to check out the Concorso Italiano event which will happen on Friday. This is a great event and has marque corrals with good attendance by the BMW Club. In the past they have included Mini's in their group but there may even be a seperate area for them this year. The website is www.concorso.com - it is a bit pricey, but well worth it in my opinion. More than just nice Ferrari's to look at, its a great celebration and social event and a fine way to kick off the Moneterey weekend.

Just to chime in since I've gone a bunch of times, if you love cars you really should check out the Concorso once in your life, beautiful amazing spectacle of exotic and rare machines. We prob won't be going just because you do tend to see mostly the same stuff year to year and it does get costly (and we'll get our fill of cool cars at the Historics and even on the street) but it is definately worth the experience.
I have a couple of questions...
Where is the corral located? is over in turn 5 like the BMWCCA one and stuff or what?
If we already have passes for this event how can we still be apart of the corral. I have my SCCA pro license so that gets me in and I would like to be with the corral but want to know how to do this.
Thanks

The corral will be on the paved area south of the paddock near the picnic / bbq area. If you already have your gate/paddock area ticket check with the person who gave you your tickets. If they can't help you get back to us and we will see what we can do. They were still working on this when I talked to them. We will get you in one way or another.

News Release
Mini Owners Shooting for Records at Monterey Historics
General Racing Limited, sponsors of the Monterey Historic Automobile Races (www.montereyhistoric.com) for three decades, has announced that Cooper will be the featured marque at the 2006 Monterey Historics, to be held at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca August 18-20. As part of the festivities, Minis - both new and old - will be out in force, with the possibility of breaking several records.
On the race track, vintage Mini Coopers will be among the many historic race cars recreating the bygone days of road racing. More Minis are expected on the grid than has been the case since the Mini Cooper was first introduced on this track in 1962.
The main parking paddock around the lagoon that gives the race track its name will be reserved entirely for MINIs and Minis. With parking space for over 500 cars, Mini owners have the opportunity to gather the largest number of Minis in one place in North America in history.
Parking in this Mini Corral is available by advance reservation only, and can only be made by clubs or groups of at least 35 cars. Information and registration forms are available on the Monterey Historic Website under General Information/Clubs (www.montereyhistoric.com/gen-info/club-ops.html). For clubs that can not put together the required minimums, and for individual MINI owners who are not affiliated with a club, the NorCal MINI Club has agreed to coordinate a group reservation. For more information on the Norcal combined reservation, email info@norcalminis.com. Deadline for club and corral reservations is June 26.
As the centerpiece of the Corral, MINI USA has reserved the racetrack's Barbecue Island for the whole weekend. At the event, executives from MINI and Michael Cooper, son of John Cooper and principal in John Cooper Works will be introducing the MINI Cooper S John Cooper Works GP car, the most powerful production MINI on the road. Lucky buyers of the first 45 GP cars in the United States will be taking delivery of their cars during the event directly from Michael Cooper and Jim McDowell, head of MINI USA.
MC2, the MINI magazine, is coordinating the creation of a Mini Village within the Mini Corral, where many of its advertisers will be showcasing the parts, accessories, and services they offer to MINI enthusiasts. During the weekend, MC2 will also oversee the attempt to better the existing Guinness Book of Records record for most people crammed into a new MINI. The official record is 21 women, established in England by a women's organization, but MINI USA says they've unofficially put 25 people into a car.
The weekend will climax with the official send-off of the MINI Takes the States coast-to-coast tour, which will visit 17 cities in 14 days, and ending at Lime Rock Race Track in Connecticut, where Minis will again be the featured marque at a General Racing-sponsored historic racing event.
MC2 will be doing a special section on the Monterey Historics weekend, and following the entire 4000 mile MTTS tour, reporting on the tour from the road on its website every day.

Im having one hell of a time finding a hotel for the night. Anyone going to trailer in cars that will let me camp on top of your trailer? Anyone have any luck getting a place? As it is, I think Im going to have to go to San Jose to get somewhere to sleep.
Also, with the tickets we purchased, its access for the whole car right? Meaning, if I bring someone with me, they get in or do I need more tickets?
Thanks

Hi Norcal Members!
Carol and I found a place in Gilroy for Friday night so we will just drive the 38 miles to the track early Saturday morning to meet up with everyone. It's
much easier than driving all the way from Hercules very, very early Saturday
morning. If anybody needs more info on Gilroy, drop me an email at the address below or give me a call.

Hi All,
I'm new on this board but thought I'd chime in with a couple extra details I have heard on my end. You see I work at the BMW/Mini/RollsRoyce design studio down here in Newbury Park and I know of at least two interesting people that will be in attendace in addition to all the Mini madness that is already scheduled.
The Design Director of the Mini brand will be there and will more than likely taking part in Mini Takes the States up until the Las Vegas stop. Also attending will be one of my co-workers who is responsible for the color and trim work on among other things the Traveller Concept from last year's Frankfurt Auto Show... Both very down to earth cool people so I think we will all have a great time!
Is it too early to ask about possible caravans up to Monterey?
I'll be leaving work Friday before lunch and I've got motel reservations for the weekend at the Motel6 on Reservation Rd...
3 weeks to go!!
