AirConditioning died

My 2003 Mini S suddenly lost AC. I read a thread about a radiator fan not working and affecting the AC. I started the car, and looked at the fan up by the radiator, and it was not turning. I let it run for 10 minutes and it never turned on. Just two weeks ago it turned just fine. I checked the fuses and the relays, and they all are good. What could cause this? Loose wire? Do these just spontaneously die? It only has 59K miles. I turn on the AC, and I never hear the compressor clutch engage; I can't remember if it made the engine bog down a bit, but I know it does in other vehicles. I haven't had this car very long, and am not really mechanically inclined. Any ideas? Thanks

Take it to an A/C shop. They should be able to tell you if it is the compressor or low freon. I have read on here that the coils go out on the compressor. When I got my 2003 the A/C did not work I ended up having a new compressor put in cost was around $700 for a new compressor and the labor.
