BBQ Fun - 12/17/06 Saugus, MA

There will be a gathering for lunch at:
Famous Dave's BBQ on Rt. 1 (heading south) in Saugus, MA
Sunday, December 17th at 12:30pm
Website here: Famous Dave's Barbeque Ribs and Sauces

I've been there once before and they have THE BEST BBQ samplers and different BBQ'd meats ever. Hands down (IMHO).

Look forward to seeing people there!

Would love to meet some folks from up here! The NE area seems to be pretty quiet and would like to change that. BBQ sounds great.

Awesome! We look forward to meeting you! I'm the one red MINI and "rare" black roof!

And yes, we are anything but quiet!

Is this a MINI only event, or can classic-ers like me show up too?

(Not to step on sheena's toes) but I can't imagine classics ever being unwelcome at an event! Please join us.

Maybe

I just told the Life Partner. We have been to a Famous Dave's in MINIapolis. Saugus is just a blast down the road. We have never done any club stuff, but being older and ignored we are ready to try.

Got Mainers?

Just wanted to remind everyone of the BBQ gathering on Sunday!

I have planned out a short, fun run beforehand if anyone is interested in attending. We'll meet at the big parking lot/park that is across from the State Police station on Soldier's Field Road (right on the river before about 1/4-1/2 mile before the Harvard playing field). Not sure the time yet, but will get back on that!

So, for all of us who wanted to go today but couldn't... could someone who wasthere post a description of what it was like? How many people in how many Minis, how the ribs were, any funny things happen, how as the "drive" that preceeded the gathering, you know, the whole thing (and pics would be a plus).

This was just too close to Festivus (or is it Christmas?) for me to be able to go. Maybe next time.

We had a great time! About 10 of us met up around 11am near Harvard in a parking lot. Surprisingly, there were several people who came over and positively drooled over the cars, asking questions, and oohing and ahhing. It was very entertaing. We even had a class Leyland Mini sho up! We took a fun drive through Boston, getting lots of cool looks from exhausted shoppers on Newbury Street as we dodged and weaved around double-parked cars and errant pickup trucks. Proper planning ensured everyone had a radio on the same channel, so we were able to stay together, even through traffic and red lights.

Lunch was utterly superb; I couldn't believe how much food came with my combo! Ribs, pulled pork, corn muffin, corn on the cob, beans, and fries. Yum.... There were about 15 cars at Famous Dave's, and the owner wanted our picture to hang on the wall! We lined up all of the cars alongside the FD Catering truck and took a bunch of pictures, including a group photo with everyone in front. There was even an envious Porsche owner milling about. :-)

Be sure to keep an eye on the thread on MINI2 and Ian's website for more pictures and probably a better write-up!

Actually Brian, I think your write-up / summary is better than my weblog post but anyway ...

See GBMINI weblog entry and GBMINI Gallery and next time twalling, I recommend you somehow find time to join us ... it's about the friendship more than the driving
