what is the law about front licence plates in NY. Is it legal to take it off.

 

Its illegal to take it off, though I suppose you can take your chances. My Ma told me I would definitely be ticketed if I removed it. To bad. It screws with the lines of the car and interferes with putting the four rally lights in the lower grill.

 

I am in NY and took my front plate off 2 years ago. So far so good. I have never even been pulled over

 

Yeah, it is illegal to motor without a front license plate in New York State. Some have suggested driving around with your front plate on your dashboard, passenger side, showing out the windshield. I don't think this is an acceptable solution in the eyes of Johnny Law though...

It's also illegal to have window tint darker than 70% in New York, but you can take your chances, some have never been bothered but others have been ticketed, but usually when being stopped for another volation (speeding, expired inspection, ect.) and then the add ons for other infractions like illegal tints and no front plate.
