Sounds like you're getting a new car - one part at a time. Welcome to the new timing chain club. Mike has a couple different subscriptions. LOL Poor guy...

Yeah, I got mine replaced this spring - The chain was painfully close, but out of spec, and I was a bit low on oil - which means that I heard the clatter (almost a good thing that I was a bit low on the slippery stuff, or I would have never heard it). You're lucky you got it done under warranty - paying for it sucked. LOL That being said, parts aren't that expensive - $400ish. But it's billed as an 11 hour job... Plus the oil change on top of it.

I will say that Concord Motorsports has taken GREAT care of me and my car while I've been there. Prices are reasonable, both Mikes are good guys, and they're BMW enthusiasts (they race them in their free time). I didn't mean to turn this into an add for anyone, but that being said, I was in and out of Concord Motorsports for right around $1200 for the timing chain, parts, labor, oil change, etc. Hell, the labor alone should have been almost $1000... I'm sure they made money on me (they're in business to do so), but I always feel like they are honest and upfront with me. Maybe it's because I've spent money with them.

Either way, welcome to the club, and it's good to see that you got lucky with the extended warranty. Always good to get more ponies and shiny new parts on the cheap (free).

I will also say that I've not once heard of a vehicle having this many timing chain issues, as early on in the engine's life, as I've heard about with this N14 motor. It's expensive for us and for MINI... Sad story.

I'm stoked to see if there are any gains in power and mpg, considering the plugs were 30,000 overdue. I thought it was every 60k but on the JCW it's every 20k. Plus now there will be no chain slop, or warm up noise like Mike and I have been talking about. Either way, I'm stoked they are doing all of this for just my deductible which is only $50.

I couldn't agree more about Concord Motorsports. I have dealt with them in the past and they are great. I came very close to buying an E38 from them.

I've always been an E46 fan, Austen. The E38 is a BIG car. (3 series vs. a 7 series) LOL Anyway, hoping for good weather on [Sunday]!

Got the car back last night. HOLY NIGHT AND DAY! Highway performance is way better. I may or may not have kissed my JCW this morning after pulling into my work.

Anyone looked into the DOS intake? I like the idea.

Ouch.

And, Mike...

If I was worried about spending fewer dollars to get from A to B, I'd ride a bicycle. We drive MINIs. They're already a little more expensive to maintain than the other cars in its class.

I expect German cars in general to be a pricier option than our "Made in America" Camrys and Accords, and if you buy one without understanding that, you're an idiot.

That being said - Not once, in the history of my personal judgement of the aesthetics of a vehicle have I said to myself, "Damn that's a sweet lookin ride, but I can't like how it looks because it'd cost a fortune to own and maintain." Not once. If I ever do - you have my permission to light me on fire on the spot. Because at that very moment, my soul has died, and my body may as well leave with it.

That last paragraph sounds like a Bible verse.......I modified it a little bit

"For with not once, in the history of my privy philosophy of art have ye said to yeself, 'Good lord that is a sweet looking donkey, but I cannot like how it looks because it would cost ye an opulence to own and care after'. Not once. If ye ever do - ye shall be lit a blaze. Because at that very moment, my animating principle has deceased, and ye form may as well depart with it."
