Schweeeeeeet.

I am so psyched for this, my first MOT. I can't pull off a drive down to the dragon, so this is my big MINI event!

Can't wait.

The site is not down for me here on Verizon DSL in Eastern Massachusetts - but a couple of people have emailed saying they are having trouble.

I'm trying to find out if it's a DNS issue, or what ... I resolve www.MINIsOnTop.com as 205.234.190.191; what do you get?

Sorry GBMINI, I was checking in from work and didn't check back until now.

I'm thinking of attending this event for the first time. I am not familiar with the area. Where is a good place to stay?

Gorham is the best place to stay due to the proximity to the event. Base camp for MOT is at the Town & Country, but I've had good luck with the Royalty for the past two years.

Both the Town & Country and the Royalty Inn have many MINIs parked there during MINIsOnTop

In the completely unsubstantiated rumor column:
(and stolen from an email sent by GBMINI)

"MINI Takes The States 2008, has plans for four regional events staged over various weekends and locations (very different to the single huge coast-to-coast drive of MTTS 2006).

It seems that one stage will be in New England, apparently in the Boston area and staged the weekend before MINIsOnTop (ie: June 20-22).

Then MINIsOnTop occupies June 27-29.

And the week after, Mini Meet East happens (July 3-6) - this is more of a (classic) Mini event than a (new) MINI event, but there's sure to be some MINI presence.

So if you're looking for MINI overload in June, you might want to plan to be in New England for more than just one weekend!"

Thanks for the heads-up, Ian!

This just in:

MoP = Maximize our Party!
MINIsOnTop keeps changing but one thing has not -
Yeah - it's a car thing, but really it's a social thing - A chance to meet up with like minded souls who like to motor about in a quirky fun car. And to that end...

MINI of Peabody is sponsoring the aprés MOT party!

Paul knows how to throw a party so this should be a good one. The banquet room at the Town & Country will be rockin' so no wrist band this year. Use the money you saved to buy more raffle tickets or drinks at the bar (or both!) A chance to compare notes on your ride up (and down) the mountain, the day's activities ("Did you keep your teeth in when you rode the Convincer?") and general MINI stuff thanks to our favorite MINI dealer in Peabody.

Well, as much as I was looking forward to meeting you guys up there, it looks like I will be unable to make it this year. My father turns 70 that weekend and we are having a big party for him that Saturday and it is up in the middle of nowhere Vermont, so doing both is out of the question. Maybe another time.

Too bad there is no decent east-west road once you're up there - lots of twisties, but nothing that would get you from here to there and back again quickly - plan now for MOT '09!

Time to get your MINI on
On the road to MINIsOnTop 2008 that is!
This year's premier gathering of MINIs and their contents spills
out onto the lot at Loon Mountain June 28th with some new twists
and some old turns. Here are a few highlights:

Under "New" check out:
The Dover Police Department will be on hand with their "Seatbelt
Convincer"

From the Convincer website - "The system enables a passenger to
experience the actual force generated during a low speed collision
and the value of the restraint provided by the seat belt. Once
passengers experience the force generated during a 5 mph
collision, a new respect is gained for the protection that seat
belts can provide." You have to sign a release and everything! How
cool is that?

Ivan Sever's slow speed precision driving event.
It's called "DSL" and there is an extra prize if you can figure
out what that means. How well can you control all 12' of your
MINI? And can you do it with an audience?? Can you do it in
reverse??? Oh yeah - We'll be watching...

Take a turn as these return:
Josh Wardell and the Concours d'Elegance.
What shape is your MINI in? Cleanest? Dirtiest? Most Creative
Display? Best Electronics or Sound? Best Performance Mods? Best
Overall(s)? Let the audience be the judge!

Let Lincoln High wash your MINI.
Get the road dirt off so you can look good twisting down the
Kancamagus Scenic Byway and Bear Notch Road and help out the
senior class of Lincoln High at the same time.

The Great MINI Boot Sale.
A maximum amount of bargains in a MINImum of space! If it can be
carried in a MINI's boot then you might find it for sale (and you
know it will fit for the drive home).

Remember the Loon Gondola Skyride will be running again, too!

The Loon lot is just the start of a day long fill of MINI fun!
There are scenic drives through the beautiful White Mountains
National Forest
, a BBQ where door-prizes galore are given out and
the drawing for the 2 year lease on a MINI Clubman from Herb
Chambers MINI of Boston is drawn before we motor for a sunset on
top of New England via the Mt Washington Auto Road. The day ends
with a Gala Get-Together at the Town & Country Motor Lodge
sponsored by MINI of Peabody perfect for trading tales and
cocktails with fellow MOTers.

But you must register first - or all this (and really much, much
more) will pass you by.

Registration closes May 5th - Only a month away.
Go to www.minisontop.com and download the registration form now!

This just in!
Listen up Red Sox Nation/ LA Angels of Anaheim/ Baseball Fans generally:
Hamilton Brook Smith & Reynolds of Concord, Mass has agreed to donate 2 luxury sky box tickets to the Boston Red Sox game against the Anahiem Angels on Wednesday evening, July 30th.

With the included parking passes and free food and drink, the value is about $400.

We are trying to package some surprises and extras to go with this (if that's not enough already - just think of the parking aspect alone!). Be looking for further announcements how you can win this fabulous prize...

Keep those registrations coming - The May 5 cut-off date is coming up fast!

and a tip o' the hat to Dave (lepew) for putting the strong arm on his bosses!

Go Sox
