Installing an Alpine head unit...what else do I need?

Hi guys, I have an alpine cd player that I had in other vehicle, before I traded it in for my 05 cooper.
I would like to install this, but not sure what I need to buy.

I don't want to cut any factory harness, so I am hoping to find a wiring harness locally (like at Circuit city or something) Does the mini share harnesses with any other cars? like BMW?

How about the antenna adapter. I see there are a few differnt ones.

And lastly, go I need any sort of install kit to mount the head unit. I had to buy on for my Chevy truck, because the stock radio was way bigger than the alpine.

Is there any place in the US, that I can buy all this stuff from? I am also looking for adapters to mount 6 1/2 speakers in the door.

Thanks for the help

-Jay

For a harness adaptor go here: http://www.newministuff.com/new/shop...ductshow&id=80

You would select the adaptor for the Boost radio which is what is shipped in Minis for the U.S. It is plug and play and allows you to use the multi function steering wheel controls.

You should not need any adaptors to fit the Mini din slot. The alpine head unit should come with a bezel to fill in the front of the unit.

I just installed an alpine CDA-9883 in my 03 MCS.

You'll need a wiring harness (which is the same as audi and VW).
You'll need a Euro Antenna Adapter (non powered)

I also bought a PAC-SWI-ALP so I could keep my steering wheel controls.

When you install with the aftermarket harness you may run into a few issues (i did on the one crutchfield gave to me). You'll need to make some mods:

1. on my harness there was not 12V switched wire. My instructions told me to run a separate wire to the fuse box. You don't need to do this, There is a 12v switched in the factory harness (bottom right corner if your looking from the wire side)
2. You need to connect pin 13 (white wire) on the factory harness to a 12V switch or else you loose AM
3. The Grey wire with a Red stripe connects to the illumination wire on the apline. This dims the HU when you turn on your headlight. When I connected mine, the HU flashed from light to dark repeatedly. You'll need to adjust your dimmer control until you get to a setting the HU likes.
4. One thing I ran into was make sure you seat both the left and right side of the harness well prior to closing the handle. If you don't line it up right you'll think you're connect but not get sound in all speakers. That silly mistake cause me to open up the dash 2-3 times....
