Well, it's not as though I have never listened to the DPSM with "normal" music. I have... and I was quite impressed (obviously!). With the multiple layers of soundproofing throughout the car, I'm confident I'll be happy.

That's weird, I never got a demo CD with mine. I've asked the parts guys, and they said they don't recall seeing a demo CD either, nor a manual.

Really? That's a bummer... all of the tracks are from "never heard of 'em" artists, with emphasis on techno, if I remember correctly.

There are ways for you to get the CD, I believe. Start by calling your dealer... then call MINI Canada and complain. They might be able to order and ship you one.

Worst case, we'll find a way to get you hooked up. After all, you're entitled to the music - you bought the DPSM!

LOL no... don't worry, I'll definitely post when it's completed.

Here is my last update from Wednesday:

I think he'll be ready to power everything on and test any day now... and then it comes time to reassemble the interior. Apparently that goes pretty quick.
Another thing that will add some delay will be replacing the stress-cracked windshield and getting the Diamon-Fusion treatment re-applied.

Yes, I said "stress-cracked" which is different than an impact-crack.

They're covering the replacement cost. There's a little more to it than that, though... you'll see.

Basically Haemish is spending the money for his first, second, and third born children on his "other" child! But he swears he will be getting his car back this month! I can't WAIT to see what this car will do! I wonder if it will transform!

Well, the end result of this project will be three new mods to the car, and that does not include the soundproofing! (OK, call it four then - heh)

So in effect, it will feel like it has transformed.

Why do you have to make things more difficult then they need to be?

Soundproofing, then Diamon-Fusion... you're heading down a slippery slope.
Before long you'll become Mr. Aftermarket.

LOL nope... however I will buy aftermarket if there isn't an OEM equivalent available. One example - my Schroth harnesses. Another - Ian Cull's Auto-Up Circuit.

Besides, I'll never be Mr. Aftermarket nor Mr. OEM. My nickname is Edge. My MINI's name is "Mr. OEM". Not me.

Incidentally, the Diamon-Fusion was on my previous windshield too (the one that is stress cracked), so the reapplication is free.

I will admit this much regarding OEM vs. aftermarket... the one BIG exception:

I will never buy the OEM iPod adapter and use it in place of a decent aftermarket solution like the DICE. I hate the OEM iPod adapter that much! Terrible implementation. I'm sure the newer one for the R56 is much better though.

UPDATE! I went to MoS tonight...

The H/K -> Boost conversion is officially 100% complete! Both the new main harness and the new audio harness are 100% installed, and an audio test with Boost speakers was completed. It's good to go!

The DPSM install has begun! Check out my new DPSM digital amp, now installed!

It's looking great! Besides completing the DPSM install, the tech just needs to finish up the Bluetooth reinstall, finish swapping out my mirrors for PFMs, test everything thoroughly, put the dash back in, and then the rest of the interior!

I'm so psyched!

On a related note, I will most definitely have a set of H/K speakers & the H/K amp for sale soon (strongly preferred to sell as a set), and I will also have some nice, heavy duty DPSM soundproofing panels, which are custom pre-cut to fit the 1st Gen MINI. Peel & stick!

Heh... nope, won't be in town anyway.

I'll get the car back either late next week or sometime the following week, but I am quite confident it will be an August date, either way.

Yep - comes with the DPSM kit. They (AUDIO MOBIL) designed it right.

If you care to look, here's the DPSM installation instructions, hosted on MotoringFile. Note "C" in the parts list.

ok, but it's the same fuse holder you can buy at Radio Shack or any electronics store. I'm not saying it's a good thing...I avoid this type like the plague. Hard to swap fuses, not really that safe ....I'm just shocked it's an OEM supplied part

I'm not arguing with your far more extensive car audio experience, but I have seen a similarly designed fuse installed on many "custom" car audio systems... including the one in my Mustang. I've never had problems with it before... are you sure it's not simply a question of quality? Radio Shack's stuff is not known for that...

I've never bought one from Radio Shack. I only mentioned it as the typical cheap aftermarket design (no matter where you buy it, they are all made in China, etc). There are much better designs to use.

What alternatives are you talking about? Remember that extremely limited space is a factor. The DPSM amp is designed to have a direct, short wire run straight to the battery, and I believe it is that same cable doing that. It all still has to fit in the boot pocket!

It does raise one curiosity though - where do they expect the cable to be run if the install is in an MC and not an MCS? Hmmm...
