MP3 CDs

Yes, I'm gonna read the manual, but...

Is it normal for the CD player, when playing an MP3 data CD to display track filenames, rather than the song title from the ID3 data?

I was confused at first when it said just "Track 01" but once I started scrolling through the tracks, it started using filenames, which is better, but still sub-optimal.

Uh, yeah. Maybe they think it's a "feature" or something.

Annoying, I know.

Names? Really? All mine ever show are the track number. For your songs that show the title, how is their tag data different than for the songs that just show "Track ##"? Maybe I can retag mine...

At least on the R56, you can hit "List" when the CD is playing and you get the filenames. It doesn't appear to show anything from the ID3 tags.

Hit that again (or a similar name, I did it 20 minutes ago and now forgot) and you can go through the directory structure of the CD, if you have the files in folders by using the **** in the middle of the radio. The MFSW can't do anything here, it just knows "go to next track" and "change the volume" unfortunately.

I figure the iPod integration will be similar, but I certainly hope it's going to use song titles, not filenames.

Just was playing with this and I think this is correct:

After you hit list, there will be a button labeled "Track" hit that and you have the song title and artist.

List = Directory/file mode where you can navigate with the upper ****( turn to scroll and push to select)

Track = ID3 Tag - Title and Artist

This is my favorite tool for manipulating tag data and file names.

http://www.maniactools.com/soft/mp3t...Ref=5.4&b=5400

With it you can use tag data (ID3) to automatically rename your mp3 files. It goes the other way too, it can create tag data from directory data, file name data and the on-line databases. I do not have my car yet so I can't help much further.

The tool above is like many on the net but I find it to be one of the best and have used it for many years.

Cheers

Yep! Thanks! This is the first radio I've had that practically needs its own tech support line.
