Harmon Kardon Amp

I am now on my third HK amp and it is soon to die (it is cutting out here and there). It is only a matter of time before this one dies.

Is there an aftermarket amp that will work with the HK system? Or am I stuck buying one from Mini?

I am tired of replacing the stock piece of junk only to have it last a year or so.

Well, just talked to Mini, they are willing to "take care of it" especially since it was replaced under warrenty previously. Hopefully it works out.

For the record, nothing else will replace it, its specs are proprietary. The usual recommendation is to find one from a junkyard or on ebay. Otherwise, rewire from the headunit to use a standard amp.

Glad they ended up taking care of it for you. Sadly the HK amps seem to be problematic for some.

How often does it cut out and how do you know when its going to go? My HK amp actually cut out about 2 months ago for a while. I could not get it to come back. It was raining really hard that day (really hard) and I looked back in the amp compartment and there was a little water. When I get time before my warranty is up I will be letting the Dealer know about the leaky compartement.

But... how can I tell them about the amp that has only cut out once and seems to not be doing it anymore?

Previously, the sound would cut out for a split second, then the sound would cut out for a few seconds. Then one day, there was no sound at all. The head unit came on, but that was it. I took it in to the dealer and told them there was no sound, and tht ey dignoased it as a bad amp.

I haven't had any problems with my HK factory step up.
