Suggestions for improving Radio Performance

I have an 05 Convertible and my FM reception is terrible!!!! I cannot clearly pick up radio stations that are less than 50 miles away.

Anyone else have this issue?

Anyone have any fixes?

TIA,

Mark

Since you didn't say, I'm assuming you're using the stock antenna?

i am in the greater los angeles area and find the reception very poor and am quite disappointed, since the stereo (h/k) sounds great with cd's but basically sucks on fm reception. i am using the stock antennae and would consider some type of upgrade if there was indication & testimonials that it improves reception...

Might be a candidate for the new High Definition Radio kit we're releasing next week: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=85003

This will be able to receive a stronger/longer range broadcast on signals, since it is a digital signal.

Whenever I read threads like this I'm never sure what the writers mean by reception. Do they have difficulty receiving distant stations or are they complaining about the overall quality--bass, treble, clarity, depth, etc of the signal.

I've written several times about the MINI oems inability to pull in the same stations that come in loud and clear on a Nissans oem radio that is parked right next to mine.

But when I'm in the city within a 30 mile radius of any fm station, the MINI radios stereo quality is quite acceptable.

in my case, i'd say it's about receiving signal, not quality of signal. when i do get a clear radio station (rarely), it can sound almost as good as the cd player in terms of fidelity. my problem (and apparently many others') is that most of the stations come in very poorly in spite of being in a metro area and in spite of my other cars not having the same issue - lots of static, lots of cross-talk with nearby stations, etc...

Install Sirius, reception is rarely an issue.
The only time I'm not on Sirius is when I'm listening to AM Talk Radio.
I thought I would miss the local flavor, but I've been connected for 3 years and haven't missed it a bit.

WOW, lots of replies to change to something else but no help on the original issue?

You might trying switching the radio to euro mode. This will allow you to tune the even and odd stations (not typical in the US) but may allow for finer tuning of the radio.

Another possibility is that your antenna is not functioning properly. It is possible that it has disconnected from the back of the radio or is loose.
