installing basslink II

Hi everybody,

I'm a total audio newbie and I have an 03 cooper s with the basic stereo system.

I bought a basslink II to add some bass to the system, but I have no idea how to install it.

I did a search and i'm getting confused with head unit removal, h/k amp?, in line converter? different wiring diagrams?

Could somebody tell me the easiest way to install my powered subwoofer or just point me in the right direction please.

TIA

Well, if you have the base (non HK) stereo, there is no H/k amp. In Line converter just filters the highs and lows I believe, and you should be able to get one at any audio shop. Head unit is fairly easy to remove, just do a search on here.

you can tap from the rear speakers
easier said than done.

You have a choice to make 1.) pull the head, tap the speaker inputs from there, and run cables/wires back to the sub position; or 2.) pull the rear seats & rear interior "cowling" and tap the rear speaker wires there, and run them back to the sub. I am in the same situation, and I'm probably going to pull the HU & do it right. I have the nonHK system, and it's just OK, not great, not lousy. A sub will help, but after that - new everything is the key to get serious audio quality & quantity.
Good luck.

What is the difference if I connect them to the head unit or tap in from the rears?

Sound difference?

Which way is easier?

1. you get the same result.
2. none - see above
3. neither one is easy

you'll want one of these http://www.davidnavone.com/adaptor_products.htm (NE-7V) it's better to use long speaker level wires & short line level wires, so mount this adapter as close to the AMP (basslinkII) as possible. This allows the BII to use all of it's headroom, and the converters are much cleaner.
