AUX input problems w/ XM Roady2
I've seen a couple of posts on this issue, but no solutions.
I'm running a Delphi Roady2 XM receiver into a dealer-installed AUX input jack (H/K head unit). The AUX mode is not selectable unless the audio cable between the Roady2 and the H/K is disconnected. Once it is selected and XM is playing, it will intermittently pop out of AUX mode and into CD or AM/FM mode.
The dealer is clueless. He basically replaced the head unit and is now making noises like it's the Roady2 at fault - and hey, maybe it is. He may be paying for head units, but I'm paying in terms of time and inconvenience, so I don't want to just go blindly down this road either.
I tried turning the audio output level on the Roady2 up and down, with no success. I also checked for a DC voltage at the audio output, and have found a consistent -3mV on each channel - would this be enough to cause problems?
Oh, and according to the user manual, the spec on the signal voltage at the output jack is 1.8Vpp. If that matters.
Any ideas? Advice on how to proceed? For the moment I'm going to try to make it misbehave with an MP3 player, so as to show the dealer that it's not just the Roady2, but beyond that I'm not sure how to proceed.
Thanks!

Sounds weird. The only thing that I can think of may be some sort of a ground loop issue. If you can use some other device - another MP3 player, for example, and it works OK, then install a ground loop isolator between the Roady and the H-K head unit. Radio shack sells them. If you get the Radio Shack part, you'll need some RCA to 1/8" stereo adapters. Electrical Connection makes one, part #03205 that has the proper connectors. This is normally used on a Honda Gold Wing motorcycle for connecting a Roady to the aux audio input; functionally the same as the Radio Shack part, just different connectors.
If the Radio Shack part doesn't help, you can bring it back for a no-hassle refund.
Hope that helps.

I have had this same issue with my Sirius Sportster. I didn't want another gob of wiring in my dash, so I installed the factory Sirius tuner.

Another option, and what I did - I installed an XM Direct tuner with the Blitzsafe interface. This set-up is plug-and-play and connects to the CD changer leads in the passenger side rear boot compartment. Perfect integration with the factory head unit.
I also dissected the XM antenna, and put the 'guts' inside the MINI's factory antenna housing on the roof. This is where the Sirius tuner's antenna would go. I spent about $180 for the whole setup from MyRadioStore.com.
There's also an additional interface that plugs into the above kit, for connecting the iPod directly to the factory headunit, without using the aux input, ot the MINI factory iPod interface.
So, you'd buy either kit, not both, depending on whether you want iPod or not. You can add the iPod interface later - just plugs into leads on the XM Blitzsafe adapter.

Update
I stopped off on the way home last night and picked up the Radio Shack GLI device (and THREE adapters!) and plugged it in. It seemed to work fine, and today it behaved itself on my morning commute. So I think this may have done it.
I still think there's something intrinsically wrong with this, most likely in the dealer add-on part or installation. So I'm not going to let him completely off the hook, but rather will keep an eye on it and if it fails once it's going back in.
I considered the Blitsafe, but since I've already paid for the AUX in (and don't have much use for MP3 players) I'll stick to the Roady. The other thing is that to have two separate XM receivers would add yet another cost factor to the equation. (It'd be nice having the H/K front panel display the XM stuff, though).
Thanks for all the help and suggestions.
