How much for custom installs for a sub/amp?

I need to get a 10inch sub and an amp installed and I was wondering how much everyone spent on their custom installs. I need a box for the sub and an enclosure for the amp. I want to have the floor of the trunk raised so its flush with the amp.

Did you guys use wood or fiberglass?? I went to this one shop and they qouted me $1200 for an entire fiberglass enclosure for the sub/amp. Another place qouted me $500-$600 for a wooden box for the sub and fiberglass enclosure for the amp.

What to do..... Anyone have prices and pics? Im not tryin to copy or steal anyones layout, I just want a general idea of prices, I dont want to get suckered. Thanks

Fiberglass looks better but is much more expensive. Wood with carpet can look OK, and can match if you like to be less flashy.

Maybe consider a JL Audio Stealthbox for the MINI? It comes with a 10" sub...

I'm getting one installed as we speak, with the amp mounted to the floor of the boot. Should have some pics in a few days...

Holy crappers. $1200? $400-500?

You need to make friends with someone who can make boxes. Or just learn yourself. You'd prolly start to make pretty good boxes by the time you sunk $400 into materials. And it's a nice skill to have.

For what I spent... My box was free, made by a friend. Going to do the actual install myself. The enclosure is typical MDF, fitted perfectly for the trunk. Nice snug fit. He wanted to make a fiberglass enclosure, but I declined. I'm going to attach the amp to the back of the backseat. It won't be an award-winning system, but it will thump and sound good, which is all I ask for.

The Stealthbox is GREAT!!!!

Perfect for anyone that wants great bass without sacrificing too much boot space (takes up maybe 1/4), and it really looks like it might have come with the car.

Even if you want somthing custom. You should do it yourself. I got a 4' square peice of 3/4" berch ply, 4 gallons of fiberglass resin, 5 packs of fiberglass mat, some cat hair, 15 pack of cheap brushes, 4 dollar box of latex gloves, some ugly clearance fleece from fabric store, face masks, and a lot of sand paper. Then if you want to get fanypants with it, get your paint codes from under your hood and spend a little more time sanding. Total 265 dollars and a three night afterwork project.

That looks nice but where did your trunk go?

Just kidding, I really need to have a try at fiberglass, I see a lot of nice work produced by people's first attempts.
