Help - Nav Screen frozen

I recently had the OEM Nav computer replaced on our Mini because it kept switching from the map view to the main menu screen by itself.

They installed a new unit with the version 27 software. It worked okay the first few days, then yesterday, it switched to the menu screen and is stuck there. The selector switch will move the highlight box to the different selections (Settings, Computer, Navigation, etc), but when you push the selector button, nothing happens.

I thought that just turning the car off and on would reset it, but it now comes on the same way every time. I'm not sure that the problem is in the computer, but rather in the dash component or selector switch.

I'm thinking about disconnecting the battery to see if that will reset it (since it seems to receive power when the flash screen comes on when you open the door), but wonder if anyone else has had this problem?

Follow-up on frozen Nav Screen

Well, I tried re-loading the software and disconnected the battery to see if that would work in resetting the screen - all to no avail. It appears to me that the problem is the selector switch which is not working. I imagine that is going to be a booger to replace.

Anyone else had the same problem?

Andrew

Sorry, no. Outside of a couple of dead pixels, mine works fine. I am curious for the cause though, so please post how you get it resolved. Good luck!

I'm no help, but am curious about what you find out. I have the OEM navigator in a Mini that is about 2 months old. I'm still learning how to use it.

I had a single dead pixel (lazy pixel actually - solid green ALL the time) when I picked up my MINI. I managed to get the dealer to replace the screen under warranty, although it took 2 visits, because they had to see the bad screen for themselves before ordering the replacement one.

My point is - don't accept the dead pixels, get the screen replaced while the warranty is still valid.

Sorry I can't offer any advice to ajauerbach, other than to say it sounds like another issue that the warranty should cover.

Update - Frozen Nav Screen

Well just got a call from the Mini Service advisor and, as I suspected, the selector switch at the bottom of the Nav Screen had gone bad; have to wait a couple of days for a replacement but it's all under warranty.

The best part of the deal is that Mini Road Service is taking care of the transport of my car to and from the nearest dealer - 120 miles away! I have to say I'm pretty impressed with the customer service I've experienced at the 2 Mini dealers I've dealt with.

Props to Sean at Jackie Cooper Mini (Edmond, OK).
