OEM Navigation system

I have looked everywhere for just some basic information about the factory nav system. Does it talk? ect. I am trying to finalize my mini order before it goes into production and am having second thoughts about getting it. Here is my major concern: For lack of an easier way to say it, it live in the hood. The good news is that coopers aren't a high demand theft car in my area. The bad news is that anything a theif can grab by popping your window so they can sell it for crack like a nice aftermarket GPS is totally up for grabs. So the benefit of having the OEM is that they wont steal it.

Thanks, Lilli

It's works pretty much like the aftermarket units. I have the factory nav for my 2006 mcs and my wife has a magellan 760 for the van. The factory units, talks to ya, tells you when to turn, all that good stuff, and of course it's built in, which should make it somewhat theif deterant. It only has a single control **** instead of a touch screen. But with all said and done, I am glad I got it

the interface is horrible. the update discs are over-priced, the firmware updates are a pain to load without going to the dealer, the feature set in general isn't as good as an aftermarket unit. having said that i'm very happy i got it. from an aesthetic point of view i absolutely loathe "add on bits". from a practical point of view it does the job and does it well, directions are clear and integrate well with the rest of the car's features (like muting the radio).

i've also found beyond the actual directions, having the map up all the time is really helpful just to give you an idea of where you are and where you're going.
