Navigation & Audio UPDATED HEAD UNITS FOR 2003!!!
I went down to my dealer today for my fix, and asked about the Harmon-Kardon availability. I was told it would be available in 2003, but not by September. I was also told, UNOFFICIALLY, that the HK system was slated to be scrapped. No details.
The REALLY cool news is that the STOCK head unit will (supposedly) be upgraded for 2003 models, including a front-mounted AUX input jack for Mp3 players, tape players, etc, and it is also VERY likely that it will be XM RADIO READY (i.e. if you subscribe, the hardware will already be there)!!!!
So that eliminates my desire to upgrade the head unit, and also aleviates my concern and disappointment about losing the use of the steering wheel buttons as a result. All solved! And I can even subscribe to XM on a lark!

>>Paying for radio programs makes about as much sense as using bank cards.

Oh, I don't care about XM, actually, though as a concept, and if I were a commuter, it would make sense. What *I* am excited about is being able to plug my 20 gigabyte MP3 player into the stock head unit. That's roughly 10,000 songs. That combined with NPR will do me just fine.
Pay for radio? I refuse to even pay for cable TV. I just wanted my Input Jack.
