Does the head unit have output jacks and switched 12v for aftermarket amplifiers? Or am I going to have to install another head unit just so I can put in a subwoofer?

 

depends how you want to do it and what system you have.

i say depends "how" because i can honestly tell you that, no, there is no specificly labeled "sub" output on the HU.

however, within a next two weeks (when I get my bonus from work) i'm going to try to install one using the H/K system by stealing the low freq. rear speaker leads which go from the HU to the H/K amp... and jacking those into a sub amp.

I'll post pics and tutorial (and if it works or not) on my site when I get around to it. (drop you a PM too if you want)

 

It works if you dont have the KH system, all you need is a high level converter (aka line out converter). They cost $20-$50.

I don't know much about the HK system except that it is much trickier to work with.

yeah, i have a feeling me wiring a speaker line route from the HKamp to the sub amp is going to present some interesting, unforseen, problems.

in my head it works great

Shankrabbit search threads for info on this, others have tried and had problems and eventually found solutions I believe.

 

I had it setup like that on my cooper for all 7 months i owned it.

No problems whatsoever. I used some of the wiring riht off the amp, it worked out nicely.

make sure you wither use a good wire tap or solder them, its a royal PITA to take it all back apart to fix one loose wire!
