How much better are the Harmon/ Kardons then the origional speekers, obvioulsy better but how much?

 

well, the H/K is defintely worth the $550 if you don't want to mess around with aftermarket stuff. Subjective sound quality is pointless to assign a value, because it is different to everyone. Read thru the rest of the H/K related posts to get a feel of the general consensus.

If you're looking to put in aftermarket products, you'd be better off getting the base stereo, since you'll pull it out anyway!

It is SO much better than the stock system, that for anyone undecided about it, I encourage you to go for it! It is really an excellent, well-rounded stereo! The bass is great and it has an enveloping, very round and clear sound.

I believe it already has an amp... I haven't really explored because it's been too cold outside to take my MINI apart too much but the HK system has a little box that looks like an amp in the right panel in the boot. I can't imagine where they would have hid a subwoofer but it certainly feels like there's one.

nope, no seperate subwoofer on the H/K system, just 4 high-excursion woofers (each door, and each rear seat side panel)
