sony mp3 adapters?

i have a sony hardrive mp3 player myself, and i don't want to spend extra bucks on a new ipod and the adapter. i'm wondering if there is any adapter like the ipod icelinks that i can hook up my sony mp3 to?

i'm sure there are products like this out there, and i don't want those terrible sounding i-trip things, the quality just sucks and it's a pain in the rear end to change channels all the time.

thanks for the infos !

If you have an 03 or later head unit, you can get the Auxiliary Input. It's a cable that plugs into the back of the stereo (easy install) with a mountable stereo jack receptacle at the other end. You simply get a cable that has headphone plug at each end (a couple of bucks at Radio Shack) and plug your MP3 player into it. The Aux cable is $40 from you local MINI dealership.

this is such a bad dilema

1.) stay stock head unit and get the whole ipod set up (new ipod, the icelink thingy)

2.) get the aux input thing, and just plug it in, but change songs from the mp3

3.) get the sony HU adapter thingy, which allows use of ipods or sony HD player ( get new HU, the adapter but keep my mp3 player)

is it worth it to get a new HU? i never really like the stock HU anyways, the orange hurts my eyes~

Unless the head unit can display the song title singer information, it's not worth it. That's the reason I skip the dealer iPod adopter.

I am not awared of any aftermarket kit that can control the Sony player from the HD, are you sure. I mean there is a reason people are not buying the Sony mp3 players.

newministuff.com has an adaptor that will interface a Sony HD MP3 player to the stock HU through the CD changer interface. It doesn't have a picture, but it's probably a Connects2 adaptor. I have something similar for my 6 disk Sony MP3 changer. However, I would not expect this to pass tag information to the HU display. But at least you can control the player through the MFSW or HU controls and keep it powered.
