A Question on adding amp with H/K stereo
I could use a little help/advice from some of you in here. We just bought an '04 "S" that has the HK CD stereo. Its nice, but we want to drop in the 10" sub from our old Civic. SO my plan is to keep the HK system, but I need some help as to installing the amp. To be specific, since I don't have any RCA Line level outputs from the headunit, I'm looking for advice how others have tackled this issue. I've read several threads and there are still some questions.
So far, I think my two options are:
1) Getting some Line Level converters for the amp (which is a Rockford 150s - it accepts both line and speaker level inputs). My question here would be can I 'tap' into the signal to the rear speakers allowing me to continue using them AND providing signal to the converters..... or should I disconnect the leads from the speakers entirely and run them just to the converters to get my signal to the amp? (I really don't think I'll miss much if I do HAVE to disconnect them, I did not here much from them when I faded from front to rear speakers at the head unit).
2) My other option is to just run the speaker level signal directly into the amp. In this case my question would be, again, could I still use the rear speakers and tap into those wires for the amp input (or would that cause any sort of ohm changes that might freak out the HK amp?)....... and my followup would be does anyone know how much power the HK amp sends to the rear speakers???? The reason I ask is the amp states it can accept High Level input signals from 0.5volts to 11volts and I have no clue what the HK amp might be sending to the speakers (especially since that is usually expressed in watts).
Any advice is GREATLY appreciated in advance!!
