Help on CD nav unit

My cd based nav unit does not like to power up when its cold outside. It worked fine all summer, but now that its getting colder it is giving me fits. So I take it to the dealer for warrenty work on a bunch of items including the Nav. I get a call from them, stating the nav system had a copied cd in it and that ruined the laser. I personally never heard of that, but that is the line they are giving me. They said they tried an official cd and now the unit wont power up at all.

I told them the unit worked fine as I used the Nav system to find their shop, so I better not get it back not working at all.

The issue with the copied cd in it, well that is how I bought the car. Do they have a leg to stand on? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

My '03 CD-based nav had the same problem. It is not a function of any CD in the drive (it would not boot even with no disk in the drive), rather it's an issue with the nav computer. Copied disks and bad lasers are not the problem, if they were, it would show up as read errors on the screen, not as a powerup problem.

My issue was corrected with a replacement nav computer and the latest firmware.

Do not let the dealer claim the disk is the issue. Remove the disk and see if the unit boots up cold. Chances are good that it will not.

Thanks.......I am with you 100% as that was the biggest lame excuse I have heard! He kept saying dvd unit, and I had to let him spill on till I had a chance to inform him it was a cd unit and that if they were trying to use a dvd it wont read that either! But I was concerned they said it wont do anything now.

Greatbear, I noticed your from Maryland. What dealer did you take yours to, to get this resolved? I took mine to Otto's Mini in West Chester, but Mini of Townson would be probably closer now that I did the drive to Otto's.

Thanks,

Cole

I took mine to Towson (it's where I bought the car as well). So far I have no complaints about their service department.

The Latest

SA calls & says they replaced the LCD as they found a Service Bulletin relating to that. I dont really think that will fix it, but at least they are trying. If that doesnt fix it, then its going to Towson.
