Request upgrade advice

Hi. I'm a happy new Mini owner with a question about my audio system.

My old 89 BMW died about a month after I installed a new Alpine stereo. Now I have a new 05 MCS with H/K (hyper blue w/ white roof and R90 wheels!) and am considering moving the system into the Mini, but am no longer sure that it makes sense after reading some of the posts here.

The system in the old car is an Alpine CDA-9831 head unit that is connected to both an iPod control box and an XM receiver. I want to be able to control both the iPod and XM from the MFSW. I like that this head unit lets me scroll by artist or album rather than just selecting playlists. The only annoying thing is that I can't get it to shuffle all songs.

I guess I could get the iPod adapter and Sirius from Mini, since I have no particular allegiance to XM over Sirius, but I figured it made more sense to move the stereo I just spent $500 on. Now I am reading that it is not a great idea to replace the head unit in a Mini that already has H/K.

How hard is it going to be to get the Alpine HU set up without ruining the H/K sound? Is it worth it to do this instead of just buying the Mini parts?

Thanks for your comments.

Any specifics on the above statement? The H/K system has nothing to do with the head unit - it's the same as for non-H/K. H/K consists of different speakers and an amp.
That's about as far as my knowledge goes. You can do some searching here for folks using the MFSW with non-oem head units - I'm not sure how that interface works, and that's where you'll run into issues.

If you were to go with the OEM solution for the Ipod, it would not work with the OEM Sirius tuner. There should not be a problem with installing the components you have from your other vehicle in the Mini. As far as the MFSW, they make interfaces to allow retention of those controls. I believe PAC makes it. SWIX-1 I believe is the part number.

If you do choose to go with the OEM solutions, I can offer you XM and the OEM Ipod inteface.
