Ice Link restore info for '05's w/ '04 build date
I have a 2005 MINI with a 10/04 build date and tried unsuccessfully to update my Ice Link Plus firmware to add ID3 tag display on my head unit per the directions in another thread. I think some of you have also had this problem. In my case the update rendered my cd6 button useless to access the menu on the Ipod. Chase at Dension USA tech support told me something I had not heard before. BMW firmware for their radios seems to be different for '05's with '04 build dates than those with '05 build dates. They are working with BMW to try to gain release of the true '05 firmware to MINI dealers so they can update our firmware which will allow ID3tag display. I wonder if it is worth a call to the toll free "ask MINI" number to weigh in on this? Not sure why MINI would care to do this since we don't own their Ipod adapter.
Chase e-mailed me the zip file to restore it. It is too big to post here so you can PM me if you need it.
To restore your settings you will need to do the following (if you use Mac, anyway - I'm not sure if this applies for Windows):
1. hook the Ipod up to your computer and delete all of the update files on your Ipod that you downloaded. Keep the Start_Update.mp3 file on there. Then disconnect your Ipod.
2. Follow the Icelink_Plus_Update_Guide-7.pdf instructions as you had before but with the file I send you.
3. Turn on the Start_Update.mp3 on your Ipod then plug it into your Ice Link adapter with your car radio turned on. It will update and you will regain old functionality of cd6 button and access to the menu on the Ipod screen.

Yeah that never worked for me. Luckily I had a copy of the previous firmware for the Ice Link because Dension USA has completely ignored my emails, even though I was trying to help them with what my problems were and solutions to the problem you described
