Yeah my DVD Nav came with 2003-1, and while I know 2003-2 is available, it wasn't sent to me automatically. I hardly see any reason why a newer version is going to be sent to me free of charge.
I can only dream I guess!!

So it looks like we have again come full circle and you have to love how mini can word things to make it look like you are getting something when you are not.... So we do not get a free update and it looks like many dealers misunderstood "first one is free." Email thread is below for your reading pleasure. I removed all names and email addresses.

Thanks for getting back to me... So how do we receive this update? I have been in contact with corp mini (the 1800 number) and navtech and they said the disc is coming out in April and that it has to be purchased at the dealer... So it seems like mixed messages are being sent around...

Thanks for looking into this.. I wish I knew when I purchased my 05 cooper that the nav option is actually 200.00 more because it comes with an old dvd and a new one would be coming out only 6 months later.... Interesting way they say the first one is free.. Do they think anybody would actually buy the nav unit without the dvd? Well.. I would only expect this from mini...... I would just make sure to notify all your sales associates that the first update is not free so other buyers are not mislead..

It appears as though we have been misunderstanding the line “the first one is free”. After more communication with MINI I have come to realize that the “first one” is actually the one we give you at delivery not an additional update as we had assumed. I’m very sorry for the inconvenience but it looks as though the 800 number is correct.

xyzzy contacted me about the trouble you are having with the navigation CD so I thought I should forward this email on to you. They are supposed to cover the first update as you can see from below.
Please let me know if I can assist you with anything else.
Have a great day,
xyzzy

Pathetic - BMW is being ridiculous (as usual). For $1700 the nav info should reflect the year the car is bought in not something from 2 years ago. You can be sure that Lexus would not be treating their customers the same way. It is sad really, I have bought several BMWs as they are great cars to drive, but the service and BMWNA policies are just awful, and after this Mini I don't think I will be back again.
just did satisfaction survey
and at the end of the survey they requested "Additional Comments' so i wrote the following:
I am quite disappointed in MiniUSA handling of updates to the Navtec navigation system. I find it quite arrogant not to automatically receive at least one free update to a system that cost me $1700.00. This is doubly insulting in that I took ownership of my car on March 23 and Navtec has scheduled a new release on April 1st. Then for ‘AskMini’ to say that my salesperson made an error in telling me that the first update is free – is patently absurd. I have to ask to what end and to what benefit would my salesperson say such a thing? To seal the deal? To keep me from walking out of the showroom? That doesn’t make sense – and what doesn’t make sense is probably not true. Clearly this statement was the result of training. Training conducted by Mini USA. My research on the web among various Mini user groups supports my conclusion that this statement of “the first update is free” has been made by sales people at various Mini dealerships through out the US.

Since it is almost April I called Navteq to see if things were on schedule for an early April release but now they are saying Late April to early May.... I think I am just going to start cutting up a paper map to make it fit in the nav window. Then as I am driving I will update them myself..
According to Roadfly.com

I actually did get a free CD update from NavTeq. It wasn't the MINI sales person who told me that, NavTeq did.
A couple of years ago, I bought the car in Feb, and got a free Map 1 update in October.
