Sorry for the delay in getting here, but
a) I wanted to be absolutely careful and contact the head unit seller to make sure I didn't undo his coding work.
I went to Settings, system settings, privacy, and deleted my personal data. That allowed me to finally delete "Eugene's iPhone" which I finally tried today.
b) With Eugene's Iphone gone, I was able to add the EA Carworks unit under the "Add CarPlay Device" option.
Then I just had to remember to NOT use the car's USB to power it (I used a lighter adapter for this test, but I also purchased a 12v to USB to hardwire and tuck that away, for a cleaner integration).
It initially powered up and looked like Android Auto, and had no connection to anything, so I had to connect to my house WiFi and update Google Play services.
Then... my phone wasn't connected but it was just... running. So I tried to find it in the Bluetooth menu, Did an "Add Bluetooth connection" and found something called "Hi-Box". I connected to it, and in a few moments I did get a "connected to Android Auto" welcome screen on my phone. But then, it disconnected.
I unplugged the device and plugged it back in, and had to add it a second time - but this time the device prompted me to connect to my phone, asked me to connect to Bluetooth - and since I had already - it went right into the Android Auto experience that I was used to.
And this time, with this new EVO head unit - with touchscreen. I was able to control things both with iDrive and the touchscreen.
Absolutely fantastic... as long as it connects reasonably quickly in the morning for the drive to work. But seems good, responsive - it should.
