Nav control button

Hello,
I'm wanting to replace the navigation control button on my R52S, as when it is hot out the button turns into a sticky rubber blob. Does the screen need to be removed to replace it, or can I just remove it/replace with the screen still installed? Does anyone have an old unit that they have removed, to be able to see what is needed to remove it, or that would sell the unit with the button? The only way I have seen to buy a new one is to get the whole face, if it's even still available.
Seems this was another engineering oversight, they should've just used a button like the stereo control.
