Hi, I have a mini copper f54 comes with 6.5 inch, touch screen, evo id5 I believe. I used a software method (third party) to activate the CarPlay, none hardware was touched. Everything works perfectly without any issue. I have talked with some people and they told me it is possible to upgrade the screen to 8.8 inch without changing the head unit. I am wondering if I want to try that, is there any specific requirements of the 8.8 inch screen that I am going to purchase? Are all the 8.8 inches screens are the same, like this and this?

Also, if I want to upgrade the head unit as well (id6 with MOST connectors), it seems I have to buy the head unit and screen separately. So the question is similar, are all 8.8 inch screens are the same and they can match with any head units, or only specific 8.8 inch screen can match specific head unit? If it is the later case, how could I find the right screen?

Don't quote me on this, but I hate messages with no replies...and I'm pretty sure that the screens aren't interchangeable. I think you would need an entirely new headunit piece...

 

So I cannot randomly buy a screen and head unit and put them together. I was thinking only retrofit the screen because a full set seems very expensive, at least $2000?

 

Hi - certain screens work with certain headunits. The screens you posted are non-touch screens. Given that you were able to activate CarPlay with no new hardware, and that you have the 6.5" screen, I'm guessing you have the entrynav2 headunit, which will require a touch screen.
