Our 2023 Mini Cooper SE came with an old MAP version: Road Map NORTH AMERICA Way 2021-3 R2144B1R. That version does not have the lates renaming of the highway exits in Massachusetts.

The nav system shows an automatic map update 2022-02 but does not install it. It‘s been like that since we received the car in November 2022.

Any tips on how to activate/fix the ota download of the updated map? All the help I get from the dealer is to bring the car in for service.

Thinking out loud: In the NAV system you'll have to navigate (no pun...) the menu to get to the update item and then I'm thinking there is an apply item that needs to be selected.

Just WAG though. And I'm not at my 2023 MINI so I can't explore the NAV menu items.

I have the owners manual packet next to my recliner but the owners manual refers to a NAV booklet and that is not in the packet I received with my new car.

I launched the MINI app and it provided no help in NAV map updating.

 

Thank you for your tips, RockC. I looked for any apply items that I might be able to select while in the update menu ... but nothing. I can click on the automatic map update 2022-02 item but that doesn't do anything.

The NAV booklet (digital version) says this: "Depending on the vehicle equipment and country version, the navigation data for the home region is transmitted online to the vehicle several times a year and automatically installed and updated."

By the way - this is what my MINI Motoring Advisor is telling me: "This is the first time I have heard of such an option of mapupdates over the air."

Both BMW and MINI USA are not helpful at all.

 

Have you tried calling the Connected folks? My 2019 F57 and 2023 F60 both receive periodic OTA map updates, and they’ve all installed without issue. Your service department needs to look into this. By the way, the OTA map updates aren’t a new thing. They started with March 2018 production (assuming the vehicle is appropriately equipped).

 

Just to make sure I am understanding the nav interface correctly: once an update has been installed, will the line item "Automatic map update" disappear? Or does listing the "Automatic map update" mean that it has already been installed?

To be honest, I’ve never paid attention to the map version that’s installed. I just know I get a message on the screen when an update is available that asks whether I’d like to install the update now or later. I’ve always selected now, and then the update installs and the unit reboots.
