Navigation Map Update

I have a 2013 Paceman S with Navigation. I called my local Mini dealer to see if there was a map update available - and yes, there is - but they want $148 for the map data and $159 for the install (which a service advisor told me takes about four hours to complete). That is pretty expensive.

Instead, I contacted the MiniNavPro folks and got the 2016 map update and the install key for $50. The map download was easy and the actual install on my Paceman took less than one hour. You just copy the files to a flash drive (I used a USB3 drive), and plug the drive into the USB port in the glovebox. The system recognizes that a new map is available and, after entering the key, starts to load the map. You are supposed to keep the car running - so I took a nice drive out to Red Rocks Canyon and the update completed in less than one hour.

I can see the new map data, and that is what I wanted. Too bad it doesn't update the functionality too - the Mini/BMW Navigation system is one of the worst I have ever used.

Anyway, kudos to the MiniNavPro people - anyone interested in a Map update should check them out.

David
