Trouble with chime wiring harness

So I know it says run the fused yellow wire from the battery and everyone says tie the three yellow wires together for constant power. I did that and went to test the double din radio but had no power coming from the yellow wire off the battery.
Multimeter says no voltage no matter where I try grounding in the engine compartment to get a reading straight off the wire and battery itself. The only way I get voltage through the yellow wire is if I ground it to the negative side of the battery. I tested the harness for the radio and I'm not getting power there.
What am I missing? I've been doing car audio for many years and this Mini grounding system has me stumped. At least with this harness. Side note, it did have a single din in it with an aftermarket harness with no chime.
