Navigation & Audio XM Roady2 Install Example
XM Roady2 Install Example
For those of you not wanting to spend the money for the XMDirect/Blitzsafe solution for XM, I thought I'd share my installation of the Roady2. It's pretty unobtrusive if you have a 12 volt outlet tucket out of sight (in the Euro parcel tray in my case).

The Roady2 is mounted using the included sticky bracket stuck to a cap from a can of spray paint. The cap has some velcro stuck to the sides just to increase the diameter a bit so it fits in the cupholder snugly. Antenna installation has been covered extensively already, so I won't go into that.
More pix of the install can be found here:

neat
Looks neat, where did you get the kit for the extra 12 volt? How did you wire it? Can you pick the Roady2 up? Have you seen an anenna install on a convertible? I've heard the antenna that comes on the car might work but wouldn't know how to get it on the Roady2. Sorry for all the questions! Thanks
Great work - very clean install. I've seen a couple guys do it this way. Don't you find it awkward looking so far down to see the display? I think I would prefer something more inline with the normal driving sight lines. Of course the options are limited in our cars...
Addsy77,
Here's what I used as reference for doing my 12 volt install...http://forums1.roadfly.org/mini/foru...4757550-1.html
And sorry, I don't know much about the cabrios.
paulgraz,
You're right, it does get a bit awkward looking down at the display at times...especially on bright, sunny days. Unfortunately, the most convenient spot that's closer to line of sight is taken up by my PDA Navigation system. (like Josh's http://www.jwardell.com/mini/nav.html) If I didn't have that, the Kuda Phonebase, https://order.kuda-phonebase.com/kud...325&t=temartic, would be an excellent way to mount the Roady2.

Ox,
It's pretty good on the interstate (most of my driving) but everywhere else the reception is just mediocre. If I know I'll be doing a bunch of off-interstate driving, I put it on top.

muidaq, if you're looking for a mount that brings the roady up to a more user friendly location, how about this?

It looks like you might still have room for the PDA Nav system. I used a bit of light weight metal, tin snips, 30 minutes of light sanding and some flat black = works wonders
