The pass through module was the same price as the non pass-through version at BlitzSafe. So I went with the pass-thru.

The one on RSpeed has not been confirmed as the correct one for the XM Direct module...... You should call BlitzSafe direct to confirm part numbers before ordering IMHO.

Has anyone done this on an '05? I'm wondering if the delay in the Sirius unit for the '05s might also be a factor with XM?

Wow, I was happy to get this thing for just under $300 when they first came out.

Ozbone,

I have seen several reports at different places saying that the XMDirect does work on 05's even though the Sirius kit will not.

Does the antenna have to be "on" the roof? Will the thin metal of the roof block the signal? Wondering if maybe the antenna will fit in the headliner.

If not, any ideas for a completely hidden location?

I've seen some on the dash of some MINI's but I am not sure how good the reception was. My indoor antenna gets a bad signal or won't pick up at all when I aim it through my blinds on the window, so I am not sure how the metal would affect it. My guess would be that it inhibits it.

Metal will screen the antenna from 'seeing' the satellite.

That's why XM recommend an external roof mount, or boot mount for cars like the 3 Series which have a flat boot.

I've heard of people mounting the antenna on the dash, with mixed results.

Depends on where in the US you live, as to how the limited view of the sky through the windshield ties in with the 'angle of dangle' of the XM Satellite.

I really don't see the issue with the external roof mount, it's very very low profile behind the FM antenna.

Chris.

Do you know if this includes all of the 2003 models? Mine was delivered Dec03 / ordered in Sep time frame. I heard that some of the earlier 03 Mini's do not have the loom in the back area. Also, are the factory radio's satellie ready, earlier models? Look forward to your repsonse

MY 03 was delivered in July 03, and is working nicely.

As far as I know, all 03 models are fine.

The head unit CD player is Sat ready as it comes.

You can't see anything until the Sat module is connected, the you get an extra MODE - SAT.

Go in your MINI boot, look to the right, and remove the plastic panel that's clipped in place (two push clips at the top)

you'll see the wiring loom for the CD changer/Sat system, all taped up inside.

My cables are wrapped in a black material, and were held together with masking tape to stop them rattling around.

if you see the cables, you're ready for XM!

UPDATE:

Not sure what to make of this but....

I get a call from BlitzSafe this morning. (Tuesday)

The guy is all upset about the scanned BlitzSafe invoice in this thread.

He wants it removed from the website.

He says that BlitSafe are getting heat from their resellers.

The copy of the invoice is causing him problems.

he goes on to say the price I paid was a 'mistake'.

I shouldn't have been sold the item, and the sales person was 'doing me a favour'.

Damed if I know what that all means for eveyone.

He pis$$ed me off for sure!

Good luck guys, looks like the resellers are fighting to retain their $$$$ on the BlitSafe XM interface.

Chris.

It makes sense to me....you are right , the resalers want their markup..the good news is that you can by the xm direct receiver for $40-50 at Circuit City or Crutchfield and the "resalers" will sell you the Blitzsafe for $150.00.. Still a deal at under $200.00. See my previous posts for info on the purchase of the Blitzsafe adaptor...

Looks like CooperB screwed things up for everyone. Loose lips sink ships. I understand that you were trying to help everyone out, but if someone from the company called me asking to take down the picture, I would. Especially after they went out of their way to assist me in obtaining something I wanted. Thumbs down for the second part of the post. I would be mad if you put my company in an awkward position also.

I suppose size doesn't matter to you Mini owners either...

If that was supposed to be a under the table type of deal then the salesman should have mentioned that, and said not to spread it around.

Why you mention it as a MINI owner problem isn't obvious to me. Maybe you could explain it? Someone got a good deal and posted about it, happens all the time.

And I would be upset to if I started getting heat for something that was not mentioned to me before hand.

Hey, call me cynical but I note that:

GTI>MINI only joined today, and has only made this 1 post..........

Hello Mr BlitzSafe, nice to have you on the board

Of course he could just be a well meaning MINI owner

You decide.

Either way, I had already removed the scanned invoice, so WTF?

Chris.

Thanks DOKLB,

For those that missed it, can you give the good MINI people a link to find the BlitzSafe interface via an 'appoved reseller' for $150?

$200 is still a great deal - not as good as $150, but you have to take what you can get.

Chris.

Just for the record, I don't believe a GTI is greater than a MINI. At least that's what your name refers to. And I am not paramoid.

Well thanks for your 2 cents GTI. But still don't see how Cooperb is in anyway at fault for anything. Or why you are coming here to attack MINI owners in general.

Also you just happened to decide to surf on over to a MINI website right after this was posted? Or did you do a google search for "MINI owners attacking XM Direct". Which if you read what was posted never happened so there is no need to defend XM or to attack anyone on this site.

You can buy the xm unit from circuit city or crutchfield for $49.00 and the adaptor can be had now for 150.. total $200.00. Go online to enfig. Email Christine at info@enfig.com. She just quoted me the $150.00. You can shop around and maybe get lucky...good luck , but dont pay more than $200.00

I just received the XM-Direct unit from Crutchfield and am waiting for delivery of the Blitzsafe by the end of the week.

I was wondering . . . can you use the head unit's station preset buttons with the XM?

I think you can. The only thing is that you have to scroll up 1 by 1 for each channel til you get to the one you want. I got my XM mod from Crutchfield as well and am waiting for the BlitzSafe too. Should be here today or tomorrow.

Talked with Blitzsafe

They said that they are putting together a group buy for the BMW XMD 101 harness for members on the forum.

Yes you can.

you get multiple banks of presets with XM, just like you do with FM/Am etc

And you get you're own BASS/TREBLE etc settings stored for XM as well.

So the MINI head-unit is fully featured once the XM Direct box is hooked up to the MINI loom via the BlitzSafe interface.
