Speaker problem from day one
I have a 2004 S and the right front speaker has had a rattle (for lack of a better term) since the day I drove it home. I thought at first it was just my imagination but, I have had several people now tell me they can hear it & in fact it is getting worse.
If anyone has any advice - I would like to hear from you...
thx
ps. I've had Excalibur for just less than 1 year now - I have the factory HK system.

The fix is actually quite simple.
the rattle is caused by the plastic door skin being a loose fit to the metal door.
To fix the rattle, open your right hand door
Run your hand around the plastic door trim, go down the hinge side, around and under the corner where the bass speaker sits.
Flex the door skin with your fingers, you can pull it away ever so slightly from the metal of the door, and that's why it rattles.
FIX: You need to insert a strip of plastic or cardboard, between the plastic skin and the metal door.
I used a thick tie-wrap.
I pushed it in at that bottom corner, under the speaker area, and positioned it so it lay along the edge of the plastic door skin.
I did one on the bottom horizontal edge, and one on the hinge side vertical edge.
Problem solved, no more rattle!
You can ue some double sided tape to keep it in place once you've proved the fix is good.
I bet your 'blown' speaker is in fact this rattle - it sounds like a blown driver, but it's just the poor fit of the plastic trim of the door!
Chris.
OK ...I went through the standard fix for this problem.
It seemed to work for a while, but gradualy started bothering me again.
Upon taking it back to the dealer it was deemed "a component problem"
and the right front components were replaced. It was warrenteed.
The speakers now sound great.

Glad it worked for you too - and much quicker than getting replacement driver!
Now all I need to do is fix the door rattle - top right, and I'll be happy
Chris.
