iPod interface/CDC problems

I have a 2008 R56. It has the ipod interface in the secret compartment.

I removed the interface to attempt to install the grom audio usb/bluetooth module. This interface just uses the same CDC plug as the ipod interface.

Instructions tell you to move the ground wire from pin 2 to 4. Of course the terminal gets stuck in the part of the connector you can't see it. I end up breaking the pin/terminal. Order some new terminals.

New terminals are already crimped on wires, I use a positap to tap ground wire to the new wire with the new terminal, put it in slot 4 as grom instructs. Grom doesn't work.

At this point I just don't want to deal with it anymore, remove the Grom, move ground back from slot 4 to 2, plug in iPod module... doesn't work now either.

In the audio selection CDC is there but it's always blank and un selectable. It doesn't even tell me to insert mag anymore.

Any ideas on how to fix this or what the problem could be?
